24-70 mm f2 lens for canon 70D

Need advice on which lens would be the better choice. Tamron f2.8 vs. Sigma f2.8 for a canon 70D, doing general shooting of landscape, some events and family. I am pretty well covered other than for low lighting situations. I am not a pro taking shoots other than for family and friends. Opinions are wanted (Wow, that is pretty open-ended). I am going to a wedding of a grandson, but not the photographer, then a cruise to Hawaii and would like a good low light lens, which would you chose, $500-1000 range.

the tamron has IS and from my research is said to be better than the sigma
