I got mine from Best Buy in pretty short order, at the same price as B&H. Loving the new body.

I spent quite a lot on my original modules before I was entitled to the rest of the suite before it went completely free. Works great for me as stands. I will be very interested to hear if future "improved" versions are worth the $$-layout. So far the only bugs I find can be easily remedied with the spot-removal tool.

The 18-300 is a great versatile lens ... I call it the street sweeper. You can do a lot with it. Not the first choice for wildlife, but everything else for sure. If you happen to be stopping in Haines, I do offer private tours and I have a variety of upper-end Nikon lenses I make available to guests who shoot with Nikons! (Good on you.) When we got married, we gave everyone who wanted to participate a disposable camera, and had a collection basket for the drop-off at the end of the reception. We got great results of real moments of actual life and fun. Hard to beat cameo shots. Every once in a while, kind of miss the film days. (More often not.)

within my own work I have adopted a rather standard workflow with customized (personalized) Lightroom presets that I believe gives my post processing a consistency that lends itself to what I consider a "personalized style"

I have made calendars for years, and like customizing them beyond the templates offered by Vistaprint and the like. I use the template offered by graphmaster.com for Adobe InDesign. Allows me to create a PDF that Staples easily prints out. They do a quality product.

Often, but not always, free things are worth exactly what you paid for them.

I was $600 into Nik modules before Google bought them and offered the entire suite for $120 before they went "freebie." (Google is definitely into the long game.) Unfortunately, I think by making it free and salting the market, the value of Nik got watered down considerably. Still use it regularly and find it quite valuable.

Very happy to hear of DxO's acquisition of NIK

Nice pictures! Thanks for sending a link. Hitting color just right is tricky. I missed it in the UP but had a good time. Instead I think I will head over to the wetlands and see what is flying around there and wait on NC a week or 2 or 3.... here is the album from my recent UP trip.

Yours are gorgeous as well ... we have a similar eye for style. One great thing about the area is the variations in elevations. While we were there, the foliage continued to change moving from higher elevations (some of which we missed entirely) to the lower elevations. Happy hunting!

Great Smokey Mountains will be awash in both color and crowds. There are lots of great ops around Brevard, as folks have suggested. I shot there a few years ago, and here is a link to my gallery of North Carolina ... I believe all the photos are labeled for locations. https://timenspace.smugmug.com/Collections/North-Carolina/

Leaving a place-marker on the thread to get updates on it. Intriguing to watch the discussions unfold. Currently agonizing between acquiring a D500 (doing a lot of wildlife photography) or jumping into the D850 to replace my D800, which I would otherwise keep in concert with the D500. Decisions decisions.
