I have a Nikon D7500 and I want to take one lens on this cruise. I’m thinking Nikon 18-300mm or Tamron 18-400. Has anyone used either of these on an Alaskan Cruise. Either one should work, I’m just thinking Nikon with Nikon Lens?? Thoughts?
I think you'll be fine with either one of them...enjoy your upcoming trip.
I took the 18-300 nikon lens with me on my recent tour to Alaska. I consider this lens my "Workhorse".
Enjoy your trip.
Thank you, I just think that a Nikon D7500 and A Nikon Lens will always work better together

You do not need OEM gear on your Nikon or any other camera. It just has to be a good quality lens.
Assuming you are experienced with both of them, either will serve you well.
Just my personal experience from trips to Alaska, but I would opt for the 400mm reach!
Nikon has two 18-300 lens 3.5-6.3 and 3.5-5.6 which is a tad sharper.
I’m looking at the 18-300 3.5-6.3

Either one will be good. Been on 4 cruises to Alaska. I also took a 150-600 Sigma last cruise. Take the biggest, and get the best of Alaska...
Thanks, I’m just trying to travel light and not have to be changing a lens every 5 minutes... which typically means I miss the picture!

It depends on your excursions. I have been on several Alaska cruises and drove a couple of times. My wife used the Nikon 18-300 and I used the 28-300 on the cruises. Cruise excursions usually aren’t suited to great wildlife images. So either of your choices would be fine...but don’t expect too much of them.
And yes, you do not want to change lenses on cruise excursions.
If you have something planned specifically for wildlife then neither is your best choice. I was pleased with using the Nikon 200-500 on our driving trips but the competitive 150-600s could do as well.

Leave it all at home, seriously, I took a Sony HX90V that has a Zeiss T* 24-750 MM lens and got all the shots I needed. It even has a built in eye level finder that you can use in place of the back screen. And that back screen rotates all the way up for selfies. Trust me, travel right travel lite. Your spouse will also like it as you hold their hand instead of having to lug everything around. I use a belt loop to keep my camera in. Had a great time and got outstanding images. You will not regret it.
Here you go, and ebay has many used ones and you can get new from B&H. There is still time, go for it.

Go for the longer lens. But if you are traveling light the you need to switch to a good bridge camera. I have used the Canon SX50 with excellent results. I now have the Sony HX400v with the Zeiss lens...buch better than the SX50. No changing lenses on bridge cameras. Great zooms from 24-1200mm. Less than half the weight of your DSLR. You can buy a good used bridge camera for less than a new lens for your DSLR. You cannot have too much zoom for Alaska. Only when you are in port will you need a wide angle lens. Be prepared for rain and misty weather in the South East Alaska. Bridge cameras are sealed better against the rain. Enjoy your trip. Happy Shooting
