Or if you have a lot of film to process buy a Wolverine 19 Mp stand alone scanner from Amazon for about $79. I took mine on a trip and scanned several hundred negatives when I wasn't driving. The down side is you have no control over the jpg compression and it's set rather high. At least I can catalog those images and rescan selected negatives at a higher resolution.

Sometimes this problem is because between the time you lock the focus and the time you take the shot the player has moved

I always tell new photographers to choose their lenses first because once your'e invested in lenses it's difficult to switch. Take in to consideration the quality and range of lenses available, not only for now but also for future expansion. for example if some day in the future you decide you just must have an 85mm ƒ1.2 and you own Nikon then you are just SOL because Nikon doesn't make one but Canon does. Are you going to buy a whole new body to accommodate that lens?

A lot depends on 2 things, where you shoot from and how the images will be used. Shooting FB on the sidelines near the line of scrimmage I always preferred my 28-70 ƒ2.8 Sigma Pro. With it wide you can see more of whats going on, then zoom into the action. For longer shots I used an 80-200 ƒ2.8 Nikon which worked well. There were times when I wanted something longer but not many. How your photos will be used will make a difference also. B&W newspaper prints are less demanding than color magazine prints. Here's a tip. Keep both eyes open, it takes practice. You can follow the overall action with one eye while you monitor the specific shot in the viewfinder.

In my 52+ years as a photographer I've come to the conclusion that the quality and features of the camera is less relative than the quality of the photographers vision. Some of the best photographs I've seen were taken with a 645 camera, contact printed and mounted in a 16x20 matte. I've taken award winning photographs with an old and abused Moskova 5. So if you like iPhone get an iPhone. If you like Droid get a Droid or Galaxy get a Galaxy. It's more important to learn to use what you have then to endlessly trade up for better specs that your behavior will never let you master.
