Matt I like like shot. I do agree with Frank on toning down the highlights. But the railing for me doesn't bother me. But the good news we are no longer constrained by standard paper size anymore. So squaring off the shot can change the composition completely. It may turn out that you like it better than the original shot.

Thank you Frank. I reworked it and will post it tomorrow. I appreciate your comment. Matt

It was noon when I went to this brook; the mallards were snugged in the shade and it was a few moments before I noticed them since I was concentrating on the reeds. They cooperated by staying snugged.

Hi Matt. Looks like you got a good one going here. I like what Frank did. Might I suggest going a step farther. I don't think that bridge/walkway with the railing is doing your composition any favors. I see the mail focus being those tall stems and the reflection of them in the water. That being the case, the railing is a bit of a distraction.
Erich

Thanks, Erich. I went back and forth on including/excluding the bridge and decided to keep it in for the sake of a straight horizon line as well as my inability to keep the 8/11 crop otherwise. I will try a square crop and see what it looks like. Your comments are always welcome and helpful. Thank you. Matt

You definitely know how to end you day and then to begin the next!! Love your morning shot - perfect in B&W.

Thank you. The Scotch is easy; the kayak shot was pure luck. Matt

A good find Matt it just seems a touch overpowered by the highlights....here is what I mean as I can't describe it well enough....

Thank you Frank. That's the critique I need. I will be more alert to that now. Best. Matt

There are certainly worse ways to end a day, lol. Great shot with the lady in the kayak, too!

Many thanks

Balmoral Castle is the summer holiday home for the Queen and Royal family. We were lucky a couple of weeks ago, we got in just 2 days before it closed for the Queens arrival last week.

Stunning and spooky, yet somehow alluring and inviting. Would love to spend a week there and experience a rainstorm with thunder and lightning. And rattling windows, slamming doors, and a roaring fire after a walk on the moor. But I have no royal blood. Very nicely captured. Matt

Last night, I finished one of our favorite 'every-day' Scotches, a blend of three single malts, a great end to a great summer day on Cape Cod. And this morning as I was leaving the beach in a frustrating and failed attempt to get some 'zen' photos of rocks and ripples, I saw this lady drifting down the creek with the tide. That saved my morning.
