This Ladder-backed Woodpecker visited the tree next to our motorhome a few days ago. We are in South Texas near the Bentsen Palm Birding State Park. He or she thought she was a model when I started shooting right out my open window. You won't see this woodpecker in too many places outside of Texas and the Southwest. Interesting how they can turn a good hair day into a bad hair day just like that!
"Wonderful" quoth the Raven!
Wonderful! Green River Lakes and Square Top! These are the headwaters of the Green River of John Wesley Powell fame! Backpacked into this area several times! Great Capture!
I got these series of shots a few years ago while birding on Sanibel Island in Florida. Just saw them again and they made me smile. Hope they do the same for you! Follow the dialogue for each shot. The actors are an adult Red-shouldered Hawk, a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk and a Cattle Egret.

Thanks for all the nice comments!
We were camped at Lake Meredith in late November when I saw this shot out our window. Grabbed camera and tripod and ran outside. Has anyone else noticed it is becoming very difficult to get shots of the sky without plane trails in it these days? I was surprised to not see annoying vapor trails in this shot. Guess we were far enough away from Dallas. I would like to thank that leafless tree for being right there for me! SX50HS
A few shots from the butterfly center in the Bentsen Palms area of Mission, Texas. Butterflies are good this year! Unfortunately, I can't name any of them. The bird, however, which we also saw at the center is a Long-billed Thrasher. You won't see this bird in the USA without coming down into this area. The flowering plant is Milk Weed, a true friend of the butterfly! I spent the whole time shooting with my 5D in the manual mode without realizing it and had to salvage these shots from over exposure in LR.
Went birding at South Padre Island last week and picked up these two shots. Ok, so maybe the Green Sea Turtle was not flying but he sure wanted to! About 50 Greens got rescued in the bay during the cold weather and they were being released from the Sea Turtle Hospital the day we were there! Ranged in size from a few pounds to over 70 pounds. Interesting day!

Palouse Falls if you get into southeastern Washington and The Palouse farming areas are wonderful also. Salmon, Idaho area is wonderful! Lolo Pass in Idaho is a historically significant area. Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce and also Lewis and Clark. If you get to Lewiston, Idaho, go to Hell's Gate State Park and ask for walking directions to the basalt formations along the Salmon River...not a well known place but an easy hike and wonderful place for some really interesting geology and photography. Basalt formations similar to Devil's Tower in Wyoming without the crowds. All the volcanic stuff down near Bend, Oregon is very interesting and a photography paradise also. You will enjoy this wonderful area of the world.
Love the continuation of yellow and black onto the body. Nice, nice photo!
We see these types of RV's on the road once in a while and most of them are from Germany. They look like armored trucks. Bulgaria & Romania also sound very likely. I don't think they are just making up stories on their wall though! There are some crazy adventurers out there that will go to some crazy places! Thanks for the comments.
We have traveled full time in a motorhome for 5.5 years now and still not ready to stop. We have been from Alaska to Florida, San Diego to Newfoundland and most places in between. As one example, we stayed in 79 different places during 2016 and we were in 15 different states. I was getting a little cocky about all we have done in that 5.5 years until I ran into this traveler this summer. Not a great photo, I was trying to be discreet while taking it, but look at the places these folks have been. I am humble again...very humble!!!!
Try Front Range Photography on Facebook also. Good group of excellent photographers.
If you have a tester, check continuity between terminals with the switch in different positions and write it down.
