FWIW, DuluthTrading company sells a pair of pants that have pockets in the knees so you can slid standard Home Depot pads in without the need for those uncomfortable rubber straps to hold them in place.
Wow, and it's free! D/Ling now! Thanks for the tip!
I have been thinking about having my old Canon Rebel converted to IR. It's only a 6MP JPG camera, but it might be a fun way to put it to good use experimenting with IR photography.
Anyone have experience with IR photography?
Consider this one more vote for the Canon SX50. I have a 7D and bought this as a "go anywhere" camera for when I did not want to drag all the SLR gear around. This little gem is amazing and it can be had for less than $400. I paid $349 and have seen it for less - look around.
Me too love my SX50! Bought it as a backup and everyday camera to supplement my 7D.
I just bought my Canon 24-105 L at Ryther. It was advertised on EBAy as "New" but when it came it was in a white box with no warranty card. I was told if I register online I will have Canon 1-year warranty. I did register online and the registration worked with no issues. I called Ryther and the guy explain that these lenses were from 6D Kits they broke up to sell the Lenses separately. I plan to contact Canon. If they will honor the warranty, great, if not, Ryther will be getting another call.
At least it is an unused (or sure seems to be) lens that was close to half the retail price. If it has warranty and are no issues with IQ (so far so good) then I'll be happy.
That said. I doubt I'll buy anything from this outfit again.

It's an excellent lens, and I think you will enjoy using it as much as I have mine.
Since I picked it up for close to half the normal retail price, I felt it was a good way to get a second "L" lens without breaking the bank. My other "L" is the 70-200 f4 (non-IS).
A good friend who is sort of responsible for re-sparking my interest in photography won't shoot with anything else.

Basil, I really like the shots. I'd try just a smudge of PP HDR. Is the building occupied? Very quaint and charming. Good vibes.
I'd love to but I'm not sure how (HDR = High Dynamic Range?)
No, the building isn't occupied. I think it's part of what remains of the original old village of Tijeras (New Mexico).
I've added a couple more of an old Chrysler Imperial I spotted at a service station on the way home.
I just received my new Canon 24-105 "L" lens, which I'm replacing my 28-135 kit lens with on my 7D. Haven't had much chance to play around but here are some pictures of an old adobe house near our church. I doubt these will win any awards, but I was quite happy with the results from this new "L" lens.
I don't know if this will help or matter for this issue, but the sensitivity of the AI Servo AF can be adjusted in Custom settings on the 7D: http://youtu.be/TDizJ_5EuWw

I have the * button set for this on my 7D rather then the AF-On button.
I've found that since the * button is larger, it's easier and quicker to feel for and mash down on for focusing.
That's what I love about this camera - you can program things to suit your specific needs/ desires. I like the AF-on button because for me, that is where my thumb naturally rests when I'm holding the camera. I don't have to hunt for it - it's just naturally under my thumb. (I have sort of small hands)
I have my 7D set so the shutter button on half-push only does metering. Then I have the AF-on button programmed to do the Auto Focus. Works very well for me.

my advice is to get out of the zoom rut and begin investing in prime lenses.
Maybe some day, but as an amature wishing to explore (and learn) lots of possibilities wrt composition, etc., I want the versatility of zoom lenses. I aslo want to have the best zoom lenses at various ranges that I can afford. I know that in general Primes are better IQ, but since I'm not a professional I'm willing to give up a "little" IQ for more flexibility in more situations. Hope that makes sense.
I'm eventually going to get an ultra wide also. It has come down to the Canon 10-22 or the Tokina 11-16 for me. From many reviews and comparisons I've seen and read, like this:

I'm leaning towards the Tokina.
