This is all fascinating and I want to state that I am stuck with Apple's iCloud. The choice I have is the bottom level 27 inch iMac = $1799.00; I only want to edit photos, not videos, at this time. I back-up my (4+ year old) MacBook Pro onto an external "PassPort" drive, and it doesn't backup my documents or photos currently on their stupid cloud. I brought my older MacBook Air to the genius bar at the Boylston Street Apple store in Boston about a month ago, and they were no help. I couldn't seem to get thru to them that I WANT a backup of my documents/pictures/videos on a hard drive LOCALLY, besides their iCloud. It's like I was speaking a different language. I just don't think I can get 27 inches high resolution display, PC computer for less then $1,800.00??? Can I or not? Thanks.

If you want hi-res display, buy a TV with hi-res or 4K and use it as a monitor. My TV/monitor is 39" and HDMI 1080P and it does fine for anything I do in Photoshop or Illustrator. I may get a bigger TV with 4K in a year or two but don't see the need right now.

You can get a 32" HDMI 1080p TV for $140-$160 and get a better PC with the saved money or spend $500 for a 32" 3840 x 2160, HDCP 2.2 4K TV and spend less on a PC.

If you're handy and able to fix things on your own and have a set of screwdrivers, you can build your own PC and probably save a bunch of money. $1.400 builds a very nice computer. (I have never bought a desktop computer)

I have two and they are coast to coast. British Columbia and Newfoundland, Canada. I give the nod to Newfoundland.

What has been your paradise, so far?

Alaska. So many great animals, people and things to photograph.

I wouldn't call it a camera... maybe a glorified cell phone.

Don't know the quality but Walmart does poster size prints. The examples shown in the store look great.

I have the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 (may be a bit outdated) and it handles anything I throw at it (and yes it does 13x19).

Just a guess here, but I think you can fit more digital info on a rectangle or square than a circle (pixels are rectangles/almost square). Or maybe because film was rectangular.

Our eyes are round so maybe lenses were designed duplicate the shape of eyes.

Never got enough power from an electric one. A guy I used to do work for wanted me to powerwash his house with his electric power washer before painting it and it did not do what was needed. Cost him plenty. They might be fine for general homeowner stuff but good water pressure and a spray nozzle on a hose does pretty much the same.

The newby, who doesn't know any better will still have to separate the wheat from the chaff from advice and opinions opined from often self-appointed experts--
"mentors" who may know what they are talking about, or might not; "mentors" who will still disagree with each other even though they belong to this special mentor group. The reader must still decide.
As it is now, we have a free flow of ideas, from anyone who wishes to contribute. In short time, a reader knows which contributors are credible and knowledgable, but it not limited by only their ideas.
The Main discussion for open ideas will still be available-I understand. But a closed discussion, limiting ideas from anyone but a group of elite mentors, whose ideas are already judged everyday by their responses; will serve little purpose, except to promote self aggrandizing from those who already take themselves too seriously
Still, I will read "Advice from the Pros" daily; as well as the Main Discussion.
Nothing really new under the sun here.

One more point: Will the elite experts/mentors still be permitted to give us advice in the Main Discussion---I certainly hope so.

I think it's an opportunity to get answers from pros/specialists in different fields, rather than 50% knowledgeable, 25% somewhat close and 25% that don't have a clue (and 50% of the answers being repetitious because nobody takes/has the time to read all the posts). I've seen some really wrong answers/advice given, some of which was not even related to the same equipment (people that use phones giving advice about phone software when the question was about cameras)

What cropping does is enlarge the image, so any defects - noise, focus, exposure - become more apparent.

Cropping does not in any way enlarge the image. Cropping makes a larger image smaller as in 20" x 13.33" to 8"x10" so the same quality is there, UNLESS you try to enlarge the image to larger than 8"x10" and in that case you will cause degradation.

If you crop, then try to print an image at 20" x 13.33" you will lose quality, as you will be losing pixels. If you crop to make an 8"x10", the quality will still be there unless you try to make an image bigger than 8"x10". Keep the full sized image in case you ever need a bigger print, unless what you plan on cropping is useless.

Though it may be more expensive than you care to deal with at this time, you can do a search for Photoshop disk and get the latest (last ) version of Photoshop on disk (from Creative Suite 6) and not have to pay monthly fees. Or, as someone mentioned, if you still have the disk from the version you used before, you may be able to use it on the computer you currently use. I think that anything below Creative suite 5 can not be used on Win 7 or higher. I had to upgrade to Creative Suite 5 when I upgraded to Win 7.

Interesting, but unfortunately, the texture goes on everything and makes some objects look dirty. I prefer the first photo (just my opinion).
