I like to use the phrase "getting to one". You always start with what you know. If you know .0001% and double it your at .0002%. Once you reach one and double that the curve starts becoming steeper and you are on your way.

I recall when I was starting out with PS2.4 I spent four months 14-16 hours a day (ask my wife! lol) getting to one.

Now when I see a new technique or method I can understand it pretty quickly. Sometimes, learning can come so slowly that it seems intuitive and you don't know that you know it.

Being the Photographer at the wedding (or any other event) means not participating in the event if your doing it right.
Since you are the mother of the bride you do not want to miss it. If at all possible, find someone else.

its too bad that Photo Technique has just quit publication. I have been a subscriber since 1976.

the last editor Wendy Erickson is now setting up an e-zine:

not much can be done with out of focus. I blurred the background to be less sharp than the foreground creating more apparent sharpness

I have a HITI 510 that does just that. $850. uses 4-6,5-7 , 0r 6-9 material. Works great and fast. 660 4-6 pictures for $100. Price about the same from several places. Chuck

interesting, I would want to tether to a laptop and do some post edit in lightroom prior to printing. can I do this without having to move the card?

This past summer I went over to Montana for a workshop on alternative printing methods. That was pretty cool. On my way back I stopped to sleep at White Pass near the south entrance to Mt Rainier National Park. After I got my bed ready I traipsed off into the woods to potty and got kidnapped by aliens. Well, not really kidnapped as they asked me to come with them. No, I did not get to have sex with some alien babe. It seems there is some factor in the DNA for my hands and feet that they wanted me to share. They were really nice so I did not mind. THE PISSER IS THAT I LEFT MY CAMERA IN THE CAR!

it is indeed a fair question.

speed is not the only issue, there is also cost. even if you still have an active darkroom the cost of materials has become problematic.

time is the greatest asset we have and slowing down the process of making Art is not precluded by the use of digital tools. It does however remove the hand from the process.

printing to digital is nice but static (imho) and I have taken to developing(pun intended) my own alternative printing methods that bring the hand back into the process.

I went and had a look at the site b4 reading the other posts. The very first thing I look for when evaluating a site for making a purchase is their physical location, that is, where are they. If I can't find it listed its a deal buster.

In this case I did find it in New Jersey. With apologies to our UHH friends in NJ all the above applies.

Stick with the reputibles.

One more thing that may have already been mentioned is familiarity with the subject / repeated visits.

There are Photographs almost everywhere almost all the time. The better you understand what you are looking for, the more you will find.
