Yes. One of my goals is being a good traveler. Too many tourists behave badly.

I think that the pictures I get are better because my subjects don't react to the camera. So, yes, small, but capable cameras have produced better travel images for me.

My first capable small camera was the original Sony RX100. I've upgraded to the VII version. In between I used a Panasonic LX100, now discontinued.

Part of what she says makes sense. Gear can definitely make a difference, BUT, the eye is part of the equation as well. There is the rare individual who can take almost any photo with almost any camera and it come it comes out very well because that individual has a great eye for a great photo op. Some can have the best equipment and have a so-so picture. Somewhere there is the sweet spot between “how much is it due to the eye and how much to the equipment”. I do not profess to be a great judge of photos, but I have seen judges rave about a particular photo & I just don’t get it, or I do. It’s a combination of a good eye, good equipment, and a good eye for what makes a good photo. Just my thoughts.

When I lived in Seattle for a while, I had friends with boats. Their statement was that the two happiest days in the life of a boater were the day he bought the boat and the day he sold the boat.

I can understand that. Had those two days of happiness many years ago. Selling may have been the happier day, :-)

Hm. Think my reply didn't go through. Anyway, have heard good things about selling through MPB, KEH, & UHH.
Thinking of selling my Nikon d5200 since I'm not using it much. Too many cameras. Will be considering the 3 options I have mentioned.

Photographically speaking, I'm in the doldrums. I haven't taken any pictures in quite a long while. I haven't even done any processing of my vintage images. No lightroom. No photoshop. No Topaz.

Do you ever get in the doldrums? If so, what do you do to get out of them?

I live between Austin & Bastrop. Kind exhausted prospects in this area. Occasionally go to Smithville to see if they have changed as they provide some interesting options including a photofest on Mains street once a year. (Can be interesting with an old west theme, including models in period attire;check with their chamber of commerce). Hill country around Leakey, Comfort, Kerville area including Lost Maples State Park for the changing of leaf colors in November. They have a website that usually runs a blog on the status of the changing leaves around this time of year.

I installed LED bulbs in both my Subarus as well as the previous one. The lights that came with my Subies were too dim for night driving especially for my wife who has problems driving at night.
My Legacy has a nice feature that should be on all cars. It’s Automatic High/Low beams when driving at night. When driving on a dark road, the high beams are on until the sensors detect an oncoming car, taillights, or highly reflective signs.
Your car may have it but you’d have to check the manual for that function’s operation.

In the 60’s Cadillacs had an “eye” mounted on the top of the dash that automatically dimmed or brightened the headlights when meeting on’coming cars. Didn’t work very well. Every time you approached something reflective they would change. Of course, that was 50-60 years ago, so maybe they have improved.

Include fiction and I'd say Robinson Crusoe. History? Robert Stroud, who spend 42 years in solitary. But then again, he had his birds.

But, he was able to talk to other people; jailers, warden, trustees that brought such things as books, etc. to inmates.

In my opinion, Helen Keller was the loneliest person on earth for many years, she went blind and deaf from a very young age and couldn't communicate with anyone for years. All she had were memories until this great teacher

A humorous note. Had double hernia done years ago. 4 hours after surgery, the nurse comes & tells me the Dr. wanted me to walk every couple of hours. Gave me a shot of morphine without asking me. Repeated 2 more times. Third time I felt like I was drunk on beer; everything spinning around which I can’t stand. I yelled at the nurse to get permission from the Dr. to give me something to
stop the beer drunk spinning sensation. She did. Don’t know what she gave me; but, it did the trick & I slept like a baby that night. :-)

Get a flip phone .

Got a flip phone I use for a home phone. You might ask why. It’s half the price for service than a stationary home phone & it can go with me. With health issues it serves as a backup, too, in case there is an issue with my iPhone.

Yup. I didn’t open the app they tried to get me to open. Thanks for the info. BTW, I left my iPhone on a charger for several hours & after that the notice disappeared. But will follow by talking to Apple as suggested.
