A friend sent me one those pop-up messages that she had messaged via facebook. When I open attempted to sign in to facebook I got a pop-up message that a trojan virus had infected my iphone. an app It as directing me to download an app called "free-mo****p.com". I didn't. But now I can't get on to facebook without the pop-up and I can't remove the it. Any suggestions?

Remove and re-install Facebook?

Any other apps affected?

I would suggest going to the Apple Store and have one of the people at the "genius" bar take a look at your iPhone. If a virus has infected your phone, you want to rid your phone of the virus since it could steal info off your phone, etc. So potentially a very serious problem IMO. Is the iOS on your phone up to date? There have been a number of upgrades to block various viral takeovers of people's phones.

You could try rebooting by turning off the iPhone then restarting and see if that stops it. Otherwise you can try deleting the application like Longshadow suggested and/or doing a factory reset. Once you reboot/restart or reset you can reinstall the app. The suggestion to try the Genius Bar is a good one also.

PS. NEVER clink on email or text links. Never ever!

Yup. I didn’t open the app they tried to get me to open. Thanks for the info. BTW, I left my iPhone on a charger for several hours & after that the notice disappeared. But will follow by talking to Apple as suggested.

Just don't go on Facebook. Problem solved. I know, very sarcastic. This is the only "social media" I visit, though.

Got a flip phone I use for a home phone. You might ask why. It’s half the price for service than a stationary home phone & it can go with me. With health issues it serves as a backup, too, in case there is an issue with my iPhone.

Put phone in airplane mode and clear your browser history and cache, this should solve the problem.
