I'm getting ready for the eclipse and practicing photographing the sun (with solar filter); but having sharpness issues. Tripoded, Mirror Up,Remote release, ISO 200, f8, 1/000 with an 80-400 at 400. Photo still seems a bit off.
Suggestions?

Well there's the problem!!! You are dividing by zero!! That causes all kinds of problems! :)

I have welding goggles with #14 lens. My understanding is that this will be good enough. Opinions?

Yes, a #14 welders lens is safe for solar viewing. Nothing less.

I have two ND filters, can I combine them to photograph eclipse?

Only if you'd like to go blind AND destroy your camera at the same time. Folks continuously confuse "dark" with safe viewing. It is the ultraviolet light that will destroy your eyesight. ND filters do NOT filter out the damaging UV. You must use a filter SPECIFICALLY made to safely view and photograph the sun. The links that others have provided you are good resources to review. Please be safe. I am not trying to be harsh, I have been an amateur astronomer for 40+ years and a very avid solar astronomer and posts like these really scare me. There is still time to order and receive the proper filtration for this event.

You'll love the printer. I hate rebates on plastic because it's hard to use that last couple of dollars left on it.

When I receive those rebate cards, I take them directly to my bank and have them transfer the money directly into my checking account. That way you get every penny and you can shred the card and move on. Otherwise, they are a big hassle. I just did this for the Pixma Pro-100 rebate card not that long ago.

Thank you rwilson1942! This is one video I had not seen. It was helpful!

The current library will be converted to the new format so all your edits will stay intact. As far as plugins go, simply copy the plugin folders to the new version of LR. Sounds messy but it's pretty simple. I have gone through at least 4 conversions with no problems.

Thank you big-guy! It seems that it is not all that difficult.

I had no trouble when I first converted to the CC version, everything moved with the conversion, no edits lost. However, later versions of LR have occasionally caused my plugins to vanish from the LR Edit In menu, which meant I either had to copy the plugin folder over or re-download and reinstall them. Either way, it's a very easy process, that only takes a few minutes. If you run into trouble, ask, there's lots of folks who've done this and some are quite expert.

Thank you, minniev! I appreciate the response.

I have done quite a bit of searching over the past couple of days attempting to answer some questions I have regarding converting over to Adobe CC. I have a prepaid card for a 1 year subscription and understand the benefits of going this route, but have some nagging questions! I am currently running the latest version of standalone Lightroom (V6.9, I believe) and I am having no issues. However, when I switch over to the subscription model, what happens to all of my plugins? I use Topaz, Photomatix and a few others. Will those have to be reloaded? What happens to all of my configurations and imported libraries? Do I lose all of my edits? If I have to do a complete reload and configuration of Lightroom, that is going to be a very long and painful experience. I simply do not understand how this process works. Maybe those wiser than I and who have actually gone through this conversion can offer some advice and words of wisdom? There is a lot of experience and talent in this group! Thank you for any information you can offer. In the mean time I will continue to search sites like Lightroom Queen and others.

I am curious to know if anyone uses any of the Sleeklens brushes and presets packages. What are your impressions and opinions? Which package(s) did you purchase? Just trying to determine if they are worth the money. I currently use Lightroom 6.1 only. I have a licensed copy of Photoshop Elements 13 but haven't started working with it yet. It looks like Sleeklens integrates directly into Lightroom.

I need to process it but as soon as I took the pic the clouds noticed my new scope.
So, here is the setup and the view I had as soon as I shot.
I'll add the flare later on.
If I can salvage. It's way over exposed.
I was trying to isolate on just the flare and where it came up.
Not great but its a learning curve thing still.

Nice shot! I have an 80mm Lunt Pressure Tune Double Stack and enjoy the views immensely! Technically speaking what you have imaged is a solar prominence. Flares are very short-lived violent eruptions. I have been solar observing for a very long time and only had the luck to see just one.

I was finally able to locate the bald eagle nest at our local lake. The water had been high this winter and I have been waiting for it to go down enough that I could hike to the nest. I got up early Saturday morning and went in search of the eagle. This is what I ended up with. The third picture is something I came across during the hike. It appears to be the entire crown of white feathers from the eagle. Seemed strange to see the whole grouping of feathers.

RE: Your third shot. Well, since they are BALD eagles, they have to wear a toupee so that the other birds don't make fun of them!! 8-)

It's a shame that the word "telemarketing" even exists. It's gotten so bad that if I don't recognize a number on caller ID, I pick up the phone and immediately hang up. I used to tell them to put me on the No Call list, and they agreed, but that doesn't seem to help. Even adding my name to the National No Call list hasn't stopped them. There are many organizations that are exempt from that list.

I think I may start listening to them, talking a lot, asking them questions, and generally wasting their time. I may also call them back and ask them for money. I know that in many cases, it isn't possible to call telemarketers. What we need is a way to block certain phone numbers, the way we can block spam.

EDIT: Maybe we can block them.

It's a shame that the word "telemarketing&quo... (show quote)

I read an article in Consumer Reports that was reviewing call blocking devices. I purchased their top pick, the Digitone Call Blocker Plus! for $100 from Amazon. We were receiving 9+ bogus calls a day, now the phone rarely rings. It is easy to set up and calls can be blocked by many criteria. We block all 800, 866, 877, 888, OUT OF AREA, PRIVATE, Blank numbers & invalid numbers. Plus I have added several numbers by area code/ exchange since the scum marketers have several numbers they call from with the same area code and exchange. I have to add one occasionally, but we have peace on earth now. It is the best $100 I have ever spent. It goes on our main phone like the old caller id devices used to. Basically, it picks up the line, waits one second and then disconnects the line, preventing them from filling up your answering machine. One minor con is that, while the main phone does not ring on blocked calls, other phones in the house ring once. It took a little getting used to, but now we are conditioned to only get up if either the main phone rings or the other phones ring more than once. It was installed about 3 months ago and blocked over 1000 calls (really!!) since. It is too bad that it is up to the consumer to handle this problem, but the telephone companies sure aren't going to do it!!

Thank you for the replies! It sounds like I need to suck it up and get going with the PSE 13 I purchased! I will watch a few videos and see what I can glean from them. I am not sure how my workflow will be done, but I'll figure it out.
