I've gotten that also with my Nikon 80-400mm lens on stationary subjects when the camera was in AF-C mode. I switched to AF-S and the chatter stopped. I do use AF-C mode with the camera in 3D tracking mode for birds in flight and it works great.

CO, hadn't even consider this approach, but it makes absolute sense. Thanks for getting back to me. Am off to experiment!!

Get use to it, it's normal. The closer the subjects, the more the refocusing as the subject moves. The further away, 20 feet plus the less the refocusing. That said, I always Chose a Single focusing point, normally the center one as I shoot lots of birds in flight and use spot metering as well. If the camera is deciding which focusing points to use it will readjust focusing/chattering more often. More depending on amount of light and movement of the entire scene, not just the subject you want to focus on. The smoother you move the lens and keep on specific subject with single focus point the lesser the chattering will be. Takes some practice. An Excellent lens for the money, have taken some Great shots with the it.

Thanks, Martin. Your reply accomplished two things: it's not user error and chatter is the norm with this lens. Patience and less movement seems to be a very valid answer. Appreciate your input.

Recently purchased a Nikon D700 with a Nikkor ED AF-S 70-300MM 4.5 Lens. When using AF with or without VR engaged, I'm getting this chattering sound as lens is focusing. Has anyone else experienced this and what does one do to correct this distraction? My aging eyes are not good enough anymore to rely on Manual Focus so Auto is the way I need to go.

Any suggestions or advice from you experts would be most appreciated. Thanks, Hogs!

Since storage is always a problem with photos, I'm following a UHH suggestion and that is to open up my external WD hard drive, set up an appropriate "Folder", then bring in my photos through a reader and place in HD folder. At this point, open up LR5 and import and do whatever editing is required. Your finished product is already in your HD so no worry about clearing out of your laptop at a later date to make room for more photos. Previous photo files are already there. Only caveat I've found in this process, you have to have External HD hooked up before you can export or do PP on existing photos.

Now that you have brought it up...

I do volunteer photography for the local Special Olympics organization here in Delaware, and I can tell you for sure the feeling goes both ways ;)

Even though I have the credentials displayed as an official photographer, often the shots that I am there to obtain are ruined by iPad/Iphone shooters trying to get in and get shots, some are actually so rude that they step directly in front of my camera when they can clearly see that I am taking a shot that was planned and the kids were posing for.

In my opinion, it only takes a little common sense and courtesy to notice that there are others there trying to get pictures, unfortunately it seems parents lose all common sense in their attempts to get their private pictures at public events.

I normally try to get the shot that I am there for, then move out of the way as best I can, so others can get a shot without me in the frame, however, the way some parents try to crowd in and force their way to what they consider the best spot is like a feeding frenzy, and then I can no longer get a decent shot because now someone else has grabbed the spot that I had staked out and are blocking the entire scene.

That is part of the reason only credentialed people/staff are allowed past a certain point.

This all is my pet peeve :)
Now that you have brought it up... br br I do vol... (show quote)

Let's hear it for Mr. Gallagher. I do photo shoots for various organizations, and it seems that with cell phones and "point and shoot", everyone thinks they're a photographer. As appointed pros, we're there to do a job, normally benefiting the organization that hired us. All the IPhone and P&Sers are merely creating confusion in their "feeding frenzy" as Mr. G so aptly put it. Let's face it, rudeness can be on both sides of the fence.

PRICE REDUCED!! Currently asking $235.00 for this Professional Calibre Flash. If you're a Sony aficionado, you know the reputation of this particular item: Tough, Dependable, Powerful.

Condition is pristine. Used as backup, but since going to FF with another brand which is not compatible, am forced to liquidate this item. Were it compatible with Nikon, would have kept it in a heartbeat. It's the best flash system I've ever owned.

Are you selling as a package or would you sell individual items. What model/brand is the flash? Thanks.

Ya know what? Both photos, in original form and lightened are just doggone good examples of your "eye" for photo possibilities and composition. And the main thing, you're happy with it, so I'm voting that the rest of us be happy with it too!!! I said it earlier, and I'll say it again....Well Done!

Composition is good and I like the feel of the impending rainstorm. However, I would have probably lightened the exposure up a little more to give the overall photo some zip. Other than that, from a Dallas Anglican....well done!

Bloke, it appears that RWR was right on target as to the screw mount. I opened up the appropriate packages and tested both the Hanimex and the Sun Zoom and both went on and off as smooth as silk and both responded beautifully on the Pentax Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic.

Therefore, the Hanimex is indeed compatible with the Pentax Screw Mount.

If you'd like I can get a cost of shipping the Hani to you tomorrow morning when I get prices to ship the Pentax Spotmatic to another individual. Will ship in pre-packaged carton from USPS Priority Mail.

Can also have PayPal bill you direct once I get your OK to proceed with a total price.

Since I tried both screw in lens, you might also consider the SunLens. Not a name brand, to my knowledge, but operates beautifully. Both lens appear pristine.

Let me know what you want to do. Thanks for your interest.

RWR, sorry for delay...yes I did get your e-mail regarding your answer as to the mount on the Hanimax 300MM Lens and appreciate your input. You were spot on correct. I just tried both lens with screw mount on the Honeywell Pentax and they were on and off smoothly and focused perfectly.

Was there another PM that I'm missing? Only received two. One confirming screw mount size, and a follow-up inquiring whether I got the first e-mail (which was about the screw mount).

Thanks for your input and accurate assessment!

Bloke, am just now getting your inquiry. I'm gonna pull out the lens and physically try it on the screw-on Pentax mount which should pretty much confirm the type of mount. Pardon my obvious ignorance of the mounts, but I'm a Nikonian and am treading in somewhat unfamiliar water. Back to you soon with an answer.

The Hanimax has the screw-in mount as opposed to a bayonet mount.
