I always used a PC. My computer finically died on me and decided to go with an iMac, very absolutely day and night if you compared both of them. So far I am way lost with the iMac especially when I'm editing. One of my many problems is when I download my photos to my iMac for some unknown reason just to edit them in my editing software I have to export the photos to my desktop that's the only way I can upload them to to photoshop. 'Every' photo that comes off the iMac photo gallery and into my photoshop/light has a resolution of 72. Can someone please help me. This is very fusrtrating and confusing.

If you have LR open it, then download your pictures.I'm not sure about the way you are doing it. But if you are exporting them into PS, Then export is the problem.

I had an Imac for a brief period and went back to PC. Anyhow, I did not have any problems with LR or Photoshop CC. Everything worked the same way. Import;Copy as DNG into LR, do edits, Export as before. The problem that happened to me was that I copied my files into my Imac disk outside of LR and lost virtual file LR edits.

Check Apple Support. They are very good.

Did you purchase One-To-One when you bought your iMac? You should be able to get help from Apple that way. Even if you did not purchase One-To-One, Apple offers a free period of Help/Support for new purchases. Apple Help/Support is lightyears better that MicroSoft.

Where are your photos?? If in iPhoto, double click one single photo, now go to top of screen, click on the word photo, in the drop down menu click on the words, edit with. If installed properly, it should give you the choice of photoshop, so click on that word. Hope this helps.

I'm not entirely sure what / how your workflow is, however, i can tell you how I do it with my iMac.

I don't import my files initially at all - I don't let the computer do it or lightroom (at first).

I simply create a folder for the shoot / trip under another folder I have for the current year. I then pop in my memory card (again, don't let the computer import the photos for you) and I drag and drop the files from the memory card to the folder I created for the shoot.

Once I have that set, then I import to LR (telling it to import the files at their current location).

I've been doing it this way for years on both PC and Mac and it works well for me. Hopefully it helps :)

Can't remember for sure what I did to solve this problem but I had had no intention of using the native iMac Photos program. If your workflow is to import into Lightroom turn Photos off, boot Lightroom and insert your sd card and press Import. ;)

Too many issues to respond completely. Hope you signed up for Apple Care so you can go in for one-on-one lessons and they will get you on the right track. Apple is not as great as they hype it to be but it does pretty well and I like it overall better than the PC.

You will have a problem if you're trying to use iPhoto. It was the old photo processing/organizing program as Apple will not be updating it again. But you should be able to download your photos to Pictures (found in Finder) or to Photos (the replacement for iPhoto--and slightly inferior). From there you should be able to organize your pictures and transfer them to another program (Lightroom, etc.) for post processing. Or you can do minimal post processing in Photos.

You should also be able to download directly to another photo organizing and processing program (such as Lightroom). When you either insert the memory card into your iMac or hook up your camera you should get a choice of where to download the pictures. (If, for instance, you start the process with Photos open it will automatically assume you want to download them there so start with nothing open.)

Good luck and a few sessions with the Apple people will help.

Here's some instructions to help you set import options for each device you connect to your mac. I've got mine set to do nothing so I can just use LightRoom as I always have choosing when to import and where they should go.

A mac will automatically want to put your photos into the Photos program. But there is a way to over-ride it.

Here is what I do, and if you're trying to do something different, tell us what and we will help.

I download using the built-in download program Image Capture. I download straight into a folder I have prepared in the folder hierarchy I use on my external drive. Then I import them into LR. They never go into Photos unless for some reason I put a few there on purpose. Photos will not let you export directly into LR or Photoshop, so it makes things to complicated for me, I don't use it.

To do something like this you must prevent the mac from using Photos. Here is a link to explain it better than I can http://osxdaily.com/2015/05/31/stop-photos-opening-automatically-mac-os-x/ but do ask more questions as you move along. Lots of mac users here.

Open (1) of the images in PS. Go under image size, the resolution is 72 what does it say the image size is?
