Donna hide, if you were to post a screen shot of what you see it would greatly speed up the process of getting an answer.

FYI PC or Mac doesn't matter for LR, it's the same interface.

Searcher has solved many many questions on this forum, including some of mine.

Thank you Searcher, from all of us.

I thought it might be a Mac because of some discrepancies between what Donna is seeing and that I see on my copy of LR.

The first being this switch/button for touch screen, and the second being the compare two images button, (this one is on the toolbar but Donna did not have the toolbar running). I am still puzzled over this.

Maybe, if LR is installed onto a touchscreen device, the toolbar layout is different?

I'm using PS CS6. I need to make a Camtasia video in Camera Raw but I need specific dimensions for the program's interface in order to fit screen recording for Camtasia. Any way to change the interface dimensions for Camera Raw? Tried preferences in Photoshop and Bridge but they are the same options.

I don't think you can alter the ACR interface, but if you are copying the screen into Camtasia, then adjust the recording parameters to fit the area required. (drag the green dashed border to fit.)

 That's a downer! I'm using Mozilla Firefox myself and like it, and I've been avoiding Internet Explorer for years, since what ever is was we had before Vista, Win 95 maybe?

I've just started to think about upgrading from PSE 19 to 14, primarily because I like what I read about the "content aware" feature. I don't think 13 has the content aware, but does it also restrict you to IE?

If Firefox is your default browser, and you are using PSE 9, what happens when you press the help button? does Help open in Firefox or IE?

I download my picture file from camera to computer then open the file in PSE and it will open JPEG but raw say it can't detect my camera.

Open PSE in the Expert Mode, on the menus, choose
Help > About Plug-in > Camera Raw. . .

On the pop-up there will be a version number - see image below. What is the version number showing?

I may have misinterpreted your post, are you saying that in the Organiser, when you choose to Import from Camera or Card reader, PSE cannot detect your camera?

You need ACR 8.4 but this does not run on all op systems,
What operating system have you?

Sorry for delay in answering, Searcher. I've been out photographing a homecoming dance next state over.

If you're talking about the toolbar at the bottom where my rating tools used to be no it's not there any more. Pretty much all ll I have are the grid, the compare two images tool and the touchscreen icon.

ALSO, LR is now operating painstakingly slow again. Between having no easy way to rate images and the "LR is not responding" message and having thousands of images that need processing by MONDAY I'm tempted to uninstall and re-install. What do you think? I'm heading to bed now. Don't know what time it is in your region but here it's after 1 am and I have another event to shoot in the morning.

Thanks again for all your help.
Sorry for delay in answering, Searcher. I've been... (show quote)

Press "T" on the keyboard, this is the normal way of viewing / not viewing the toolbar. However, the Compare two images icon is on the toolbar.

This "new" button, the Touchscreen icon, I have not found any information on and don't know where it is. Is this a Mac icon?

You could try turning off the GPU, Preferences > Performance. This seems to help speed things up.

Does the rating respond to select and hitting 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 on the keyboard ?

If you installed the latest update which changed the import screen layout, then in Preferences > General tab uncheck the "Show Add Photo screen. This apparently has a bearing on performance on a Mac.

I know that arrow used to be there but is no longer. And yes, I do have touchscreen although I rarely use it. Never saw that touchscreen icon before though. Thanks for jumping in, Searcher, but no arrow like you show and like USED to be there.

Is the toolbar there or disappeared?

Also missing is the option to put the images in add on order or capture time order that normally appears at the bottom. And now I have an icon on the bottom left that enables touchscreen editing. Did I somehow get updated even though I consistently said NO every time it asked because of what I'd read here on the hog? Grrrrrrrr.

The Sort feature is still there (it is on my version), see my screen clip above. Click on the down arrow, (see above) and choose Sort.

The touch screen editing button is something I have never seen. Is it because you actually have a touch screen?

Hi all,

I use the 1-5 ratings ALL the time and all of a sudden they're gone! I can go to the top under photo to rate but that takes way too much time. Can anyone tell me how to get them back at the bottom. I also have no color ratings and no flags and they were always there before.

Many thanks in advance. I have thousands to cull thru from multiple jobs this weekend and I NEED them where they were before.

Donna

Click on the tiny arrow on the toolbar and ensure Rating is ticked.

Searcher, if I read you right , your saying I can go into preference change something (what) and go back to the old import box .
Thanks
Ron

Not exactly, but you can turnoff the little Add Photo boxes.

Edit > Preferences > General tab
Uncheck "Show Add Photos" screen

The restoration of the import dialogue will be via the next update from Adobe.

Recent events have unjustifiably undermined and vilified both Lightroom and Photoshop CC. Both are solid, versatile applications, are good value for money and work well.

The problems with the software started when Adobe wrote extra software allowing both programs to access user’s graphic cards. They (Adobe) did not take into account the great variety of cards across millions of computers, and consequently there were problems. Many computers do not have a separate graphics card and that caused even more problems. It was an easy fix, simply switch off the GPU in preferences, unfortunately Adobe did not reckon on users not knowing about the switch and failed to make users aware of its existence.

The latest glitch was to follow the trend for rectangular apps as seen in smart phones and Windows 8, e.g. square panels to choose from instead of menus. This they incorporated into the Import screen, and their excuse or reason for doing so was that users have long wanted a simplified import procedure.

The big mistake here was that the users that wanted a simplified procedure were the ones who asked for it, the great majority of users were content and therefore did not make any comment at all. The next LR update will put things back as they were.

Again a click or two in Preferences and the annoying square apps just disappear.

Users having problems with Photoshop are, in general, learning how to achieve something different. How to use masks, how to use Perspective Warp, how to make a selection, how to combine layers etc. These are not problems with the software, these are problems solved by study or asking questions to those in the know.

Photoshop works by loading one or more images, working on it or them, saving the finished result. This is how word processors and the majority of other applications work.

Lightroom does not work in the same way as Photoshop, and this is the root cause of most of the headaches that new users get. It is vital to understand what LR does and how it does it before bringing in thousands of images and then getting lost. There are hundreds if not thousands of videos and books explaining the LR concept, and once that is understood, the rest is easy.

I don’t believe for one moment that LR and PS is for everybody, but please don’t ignore them because you think they are seriously flawed, they are not.

I have LR CC version 2015.1.1 and have had great luck with it, but I have an update to install which is 2.3.0.151. I have read a couple of places not to update this version due to problems, that you should wait for the next version that it will take care of the bugs in this last update. Has anyone else heard this or have you installed this 2.3.0.151?
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks

I assume you are running a Mac. The latest update is 2.3.0.151 but this corrects previous updates but also appears to be problematic. Unless you need the update, don't bother with it, wait for the next one. Some comments and fixes on this one can be seen at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1962672
