As a hobby photographer would Photoshop Elements be sufficient for editing landscapes, sunsets, and occasional portraits? I found the 2019 version new on Craigslist for under $50. Would it be worth the invest?

Yes, but $50 is too much to pay for an old version. If you watch for sales, you can probably get the current year for maybe $10 more than that.

knocking on wood here, but I've never had an issue with updating Win10.

I don't know why some have all kinds of issues, and some (I'm guessing a lot of us) don't. Of course, who ever posts "Yay, another successful update?" You only hear when someone has an issue...

I sure hope you get it fixed, and hope my computer doesn't catch whatever yours has.

Not that I can think of.
It may consume more battery or take longer to be ready to shoot, but I can guarantee that if so, neither are noticeable.

I always configure it to "on" when turning on and off if available.
Currently I have a D7200 also.

Maybe is there some other reason I am no aware of.

same here, always set to on and off.
Doesn't do a bit of good for some spots, but it sure does make it longer between sensor cleanings.

Bummer, I love my Proshow producer. I probably won't switch "upgrade" or whatever until I get a new computer, or "have to"

Agreed, bought it a few years ago, in my often less than humble opinion, the most comprehensive book on the subject out there.

Thanks to Steve Perry for doing such an incredible job, and yes, I also suggest it every time I get a chance

I can't verify this for sure, but I believe I just read in the past week or so, that the newest VR lenses are "smart" and turn on and off as needed?

Someone with newer equipment can probably set me straight.

13.1K shutter clicks, US bought, with 18-200mm DX lens, battery & charger. This would make a good starter camera for some one. Good working condition and no dings & scratches that I can see. Replaced it with a Z50. Asking $250 fob continental US.

Which exact version of the 18-200 lens?
Lastly, US bought, does that mean US model, or gray market?

Sorry for all the questions, but $250 is a lot of money for some of us.

But Bob, if more people thought like the OP, then people like me who only purchase used or refurbished would never have anything available to purchase. HAHA

Signed Bob (as well)

After many years of studying the latest camera and lens offerings, and purchasing new equipment with the expectation that new equipment would improve my photographs (and I was always relatively pleased with my photographs), I have arrived in a place where my interest in new equipment and technology is almost non-existent. I no longer enjoy perusing B & H emails and researching equipment discussed on UHH. Admittedly, I arrived at this place only after acquiring excellent equipment -- Sony a7iii and a few excellent lenses, and a Sony RX100 VI.

I know that there will always be technological improvements, and I used to spend hours keeping up with photographic technology. As I have heard so many times on UHH and elsewhere, the photographer and not the equipment is what produces excellent photos. I still love YouTube videos on how to take and edit photos, and I sometimes marvel at the very basic equipment used by some of the gurus in the field.

My equipment is more than adequate, and my emphasis should be on shooting rather than sitting in front of my computer studying new technology and expecting that new equipment will be transformative.

This post contains no creative or new ideas. Let's not forget that our hobby should be about shooting photos and not acquiring equipment.

Happy New Year to everyone!!!

I learned years ago, when I was a musician. Buying more and newer instruments, amps, effects pedals, etc, never made me a better musician. Practice and perfecting what I had is what made me better.

That being said, there does come a point where your existing camera equipment can't do what you need it to do. As a wedding photographer, I was constantly trying to find a body that would handle low light situations. The bodies I use now handle low light just fine, so until I drop another camera, or it wears out, I will be happy with what I have too. My issue is that for years, I accumulated some crappy glass, and have had some weird failures of lenses not focusing any more, or mysterious broken plastic mounts, so I'm now looking for quality USED glass.

Totally get where you are coming from...

That said I'm actually moving in reverse direction...
Searching out old photography forum posts on the web on the best pro nikkors of the 1980's and 1990's
Seems that Nikon was flushed with cash and developed some awesome glass back then...
Those old photography forums of the 1990's are futile ground for actual reviews, thoughts and reflections by "real" working pros not YouTube "Pros" lol

I've been buying a these precious gems & jewels up at ridiculously low prices as the rush to mirrorless is causing massive liquidations of old screwdriver pro optics... Which btw are not supported by the Z mount.

Bottom Line? for the price of a single new lens I've acquired nearly a dozen vintage optics while some are a little lame (thus are resold), a few of these are precious stellar optics are certainly equal if not better than the pricey current offerings... the only thing they lack is VR and Nano Crystal coating... Since I shoot with either with studio lighting or speedlights on location VR is irrelevant... and for glare suppression coatings? I have to laugh... Folks lens hoods actually work far better than any Nano Crystal or SIC front element protection... besides those vintage lenses usually have only half the elements of the latest and greatest optics... the more hurtles the light has to pass through the greater chance for issues... not to mention loss of T-Stops...

Bottom Line? Those Pro Nikkor screwdrivers i.e. "D" type lenses are epic! Yes they are noisy... however they average far lighter in weight... have a more robust build quality and no electronics to fail...

Maybe I'm just old school but if I want plastic super light weight I'll go with my Samsung Cell...
Love the feel of a "Full Metal Jacket"... anyone else feel the same? or has Elvis left the building?

And an happy New Year ahead for all!

Thomas. Would you care to share your best bargain finds. (best bang for the buck?) I have never been one who needs the newest, latest and greatest. What I do need is to replace some glass that has failed, broken, or otherwise underperforms.

Thanks

We moved to "the lake" (an Indiana saying... all lakes are "the" lake) last year. Our deck faces due east, so yes, it is an awesome way to wake up and spend a little time with nature, and your morning coffee.

Our house faces a protected wetlands across the lake ("the" lake...haha) and I feel like I have a mini vacation every day.

Can't wait to retire in 5 more years!

You made out on that lesson learned. Only $120 for a repair to make like New. I think everyone has had battery leaks at one time in their lives. I was able to save a good 3-cell D sized batteries, flash light. Because of leakage. It was a tedious task. It has been mentioned on this forum, at least twice, of photographers leaving AA batteries in their flash units. And excessive leakages were discovered. If that had been a Yongnuo, Godox, or Neweer, it would have been toasted. Permanently.

... and for LESS than $120, you would have an actual NEW flash, not a like new flash. LOL.
People can spend what they want on what they want, and much like the Nikon Vs. Canon, Mac vs. PC, or JPEG vs raw, I don't think we are going to change each other's minds. I made up my own mind, and that works for me.

For fear of sounding like a "snob," I will offer my opinion here, and tell you that there are many solutions, so mine isn't the only way. This is why I find that manual is easier than using modes. When I try out using various different modes, the camera gets confused based on the background, or other such things. The easiest and quickest thing for me to do is to meter off the grass, or the palm of my hand, get my settings, and fire away. Unless there is a lot of variation in cloud cover or something, it gets me more than close enough to barely tweak it in post if necessary at all.

When using aperture, or shutter priority, I have to keep fiddling with the exposure compensation, and somehow, 3 shots taken minutes apart of basically the same thing in the same light, will give me different results.

Again, do what you want, but think about manual, and that the settings remain consistent.

Good luck
