I just ordered these two lenses. I have never owned a D lens before, all my lenses so far have been G lenses. The D lenses have intrigued me for a while and once I decided to get a 24mm lens I figured I might as well do the D. Then when I saw how inexpensive the 50mm was I decided to get the D version of that too. I will be using them on my Df. I hope I didn't make a mistake.
The 50mm 1.8D and the Df are a match made in heaven, I use that combo all the time. You will love it.

once again thank you all. I have had a number of emails back and forth and the buyer claims the lens was perfect when it left Miami. Well that was there yesterday when I opened the box. It was shipped back to him this morning. Ebay will not get envolved until Saturday. I paid $650 so Im praying they fix this!!
Just curious, was this an individual seller or an ebay "storefront" for a business?
I've been shooting black and white 35mm for a while now and just ordered the nessissary equipment to develop my own film, I should receive it Tuesday. I'll still be shooting digital, but I really love shooting with my old Nikkormat and FE.
I don't have the space to set up a proper darkroom, but I'm really looking forward to doing my own film, I have a quality scanner and printer that I'll use for printing.
I have an Epson Artisan 1430 and I couldn't be more pleased with it. It's been mentioned that if it is not used often that the print heads will clog up and it's good advice, but let me tell you my story. In August of last year my house flooded. I got 30" of river in the house. Minutes before we evacuated, I took my computer, scanner and printer and put them in the attic. The printer has been there since, Six months baking in the Louisiana summer in a closed attic, not to mention all the dust from construction while I rebuilt the house. I was finally able to get it down today and see if it still worked. I ran a nozzle check, and the black and yellow heads skipped in a few places so I ran it through the head cleaning routine. Believe it or not, the printer is now working as good as ever. I'm simply amazed that it works at all. Kudos to Epson!
Running LR on an external drive is bound to cause performance issues, even if it's USB3.0 or better. I keep my OS and programs including LR and its catalog on a solid state drive C:\ and my photos on an internal standard drive, with multiple external back ups.

You can differ all you want, but even with 32 gigs of ram the laptop will still be slower than you laptop, even if the laptop had a discrete video card the desktop would still be faster. All things being equal, a desktop will always beat a laptop.
I expect that you're right, but given the choice between 16 and 32 gb, I'd go for the 32. Having said that, I've read that with LR/PS, after you get above 32gb ram, the performance increase is not really noticeable. I don't know how true that is though.

16 gigabytes is plenty.
I would respectfully differ, I have a desktop and a laptop, both have i7 processors and solid state drives. The main difference is that the desktop has 32 gb ram and the laptop has 16. The desktop blows the laptop away. Granted, the desktop has a discreet video card and the laptop is integrated with the motherboard, but I'm talking about program load times and overall performance, not just graphics rendering.

... Secondly when you're talking crop and then what you call sensor size larger than 24x36?
Medium format. Which by the way, is NOT equivalent to medium format film size.
Welcome aboard!
I still shoot film as well as digital, although, with film I only shoot b&w. For that I use Ilford HP5 400 ISO and Kodak Tri-x 400. I heard that Kodak is bringing Ecktachrome back. You may want to look into that.

It is. The Guide, while sometimes incorrect, is never wrong.
Very interesting, thanks for the link.
I'm glad to see that Ektachrome is back, but I probably won't be using it. I still shoot a good bit of film but only b&w. For color, I'll stick to digital.

Just loaded the software but there were no written directions provided. Anyone know of written easy to follow directions. I just learn the old fashion way.
There is a book called Adobe Photoshop CC Classroom in a Book that is pretty in depth. You can get it either in print or digital from Amazon, B&H , etc.
My 1.8D is pretty much welded to my Df. As someone already mentioned, it's a matter of one stop difference. Unless you need she extra speed, I'd say save $200.00 and get the 1.8, you won't be disappointed.
I plan to start developing my own b&w film and also to learn to shoot with the Graflex 4x5 that my father left me.
