Would appreciate opinions on getting a D7500 or a D500 refurb direct from Nikon. The Nikon sight is offering 10% off refurbed this weekend and there is a $495 difference between the two camera bodies. I am leaning toward the D500, but would like your input. Am currently using a D5500 for lacrosse and cross country meets of my grandchildren. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

D500 I am a high school sports photographer. I have over 90,000 on the 500. No problems at all.
Good luck.

Not to sound like a broken record, but D500, without hesitation. BTW thanks for your post. My next stop is the Nikon site to see if I can get one too. Best of luck.

My second response to your post. As I mentioned in first post, my next stop was the Nikon USA site to check this out for myself. When I looked at site the refurbished Nikon D500 was being offered for $1529 after 10% reduction. On B&H site the refurbished camera is offered for $1549 and at Adorama it is offered for $1439. Supposedly these are Nikon refurbished. I just thought you might want to take a look at the latter two sites before you pull the trigger. Remember, it only hurts once to buy the best.

ISO 8000 on the second picture which appears to be cropped.
Not exactly noise free, but images from my D5500 would look like this probably at ISO 3200 or 2000, maybe even 1600. Basically I don't like anything I take at ISO higher than 1600.
This example gives me pretty good idea of what to expect in real life situations and it does not look bad at all for indoor sports with fast action, poor light etc.
Thank you for sharing.

Yes I had to go to iso 8000 to stop action at 1/500 - 1/640. I don't like shooting at high iso but sometimes you got to do it.
It's still a great camera for sports. Just wanted to show what the camera is capable outside and in a gym.

Stopping action is related to shutter speed.

I think these are great examples. It really helps.
Thank you!

That's why handling high ISO values gracefully is essential to indoors/night-time sports coverage these days.

I saw the same Nikon site, look at the refurb D7200, if cost is an issue. I've been bothered by the 7500 as compared to the 7200 ever since Nikon released the 7500. If I were buying a half frame, I'd buy the refurb D7200.

How is the 7200 in low light? Thank you.
