If you intend to "make money" in this manner I find you a selfish humam being lacking morals.

How? blackmail. Why would you want to do that?

Personally I'd return the negative to her and offer to return the rights for nothing, or at least a minimal fee.

Doesn't anybody have any integrity these days?

While I completely agree with your suggestion to return the neg, the answer to your integrity question is simply...Not Many! One only has to look to Washington DC to see that integrity is sadly dead.

You are kidding, Right?
If the celebrity chooses to market her talents in the nude, then there are probably many other photos already on the internet - so no market here. If the celebrity has chosen to be known for her acting talents, then releasing this photo would be embarrassing and could cause much personal damage - so there should be no market here either, unless you are completely amoral. This may have been the only time this person had nude photos taken, could now may be married with children and release of this material could be devastating, especially if children are involved. Be a decent human being instead of a slime-ball. Appears the only money to be made in this deal was by the individual who sold you the negative. Cut your losses and gain some integrity.

Not relevant to this post, but so true. Integrity is no more.

I have acquired the original b&w negative. The (female) subject is now a movie star. The photo, a nude, was made in 1985 when the woman turned 19. (Well before she became famous). Along with the negative, I also now own the model release and copyright and any other rights.

I would like to make some bucks, but this situation is new to me.

- Limited edition prints?
- Screen image onto T-shirts?
- License image for posters?

I’d appreciate suggestions, and pointers to useful articles and sites.

Note: I do not expect opposition nor cooperation from the celebrity.

A friendly question - have you heard of the #metoo campaign?

If NOT, let me inform you that this is about women, and men, experiencing sexual harassment. I think your idea of exploiting the now famous woman makes you a perfect target for that campaign, so go ahead - you’ll soon be as famous as the young woman on your pictures. Or as famous as Harvey Weinstein, Bill Clinton, Donald Dump, Kevin Spacey, and many many more. -Do you really want to join their fame?

As said in other replies - do the decent thing and return negatives and photos to the woman as she is the rightful owner without any exchange of money.

Doing anything but returning the material is disrespectful and immoral. Keeping the material is wrong. WRONG.

First - I suggest that you contact the celebrity and offer to return the negative, with no cost to her. She was a very young adult at just 19 and didn’t know what she signed. I take it that she has not had nudes of herself circulating before. I would not go forward unless she signed an updated release. Who knows she may want a boost to her celebrity fame and may want you to publish! If she does not want this picture out there I would not do it.

But a win-win for whom? The OP's post didn't seem to indicate that the subject has a voice in this issue, he was behaving more like a predator. It the subject is a celebrity as indicated, why not negotiate with his or her agent discretely? Maybe a mutually beneficial arrangement can be achieved?

It could be a great image that both sides can profit from. If it is mutual gain, then it is fine. If it is exploitation, not so much.

Both the OP and celebrity if appropriately handled.

This is the lowest of low, trying to make money off the work of others.

100% agreement.

I suspect that we have some members in UHH that are collecting all kinds of warm and fuzzy accolades by PSing other peoples works, one comes to mind in particular, and it is done routinely- of the same thing.

I'd bet the OP would get greater rewards by simply returning them to where they belong. Don't be a jerk!

That's my 2-bits worth

You know what is WRONG? Injecting your view of politics in a photography forum! I come here to read about photography and to get away from political rantings. Donald Dump?? Really?

To the OP:
I don't think it's what you were looking for but the advice you've received so far should be enough to convince you it's just not a good idea.

FWIW, I agree with the reply regarding the “Me too” campaign, however not with the political commentary and derogatory comments regarding DD. That quip diminishes your own integrity. I am sick of the acrimony in politics and certainly wish to avoid it in UHH.

That said, I think the OP should crawl back under his rock, taking the negatives with him. Hopefully, from this suitably low vantage point, he will seriously reconsider his post, as it appears almost every responder to date shares a similar view of his potential actions...and risk taking.

I’m female, so my opinion should count twice (just kidding...)

You said "I do not expect opposition" That's a pretty big assumption. Go to work to "make some bucks" Not by exploiting a past picture(s).

Further from his bio in here:

“I have worked as a legal secretary and paralegal with particular experience with copyright issues and "Right of Publicity" law. Right of Publicity is the law that gets in play when model releases (or the lack of them) are at issue.”

Then why do you even need UHH suggestions for help?🤔
