I use a custom Brush in PS that consists of a graphic of my logo - pretty easy to do and then just add a dedicated layer to the image in PS solely for the logo. That way, you don't have to edit any background or adjustment layers to change or remove the logo if you want to - simply delete the layer the logo is on. Text can be distracting, but some ID of the author of the work should, IMHO, be on the image. Would you rather the painting you discovered in Aunt Sadie's attic have Van Gogh's signature or not? ;-)

Usually, on the left lower corner I have a special watermark. either black or white depending on the image @ 80% transparency. Also on some images, I will use any corner depending on image

I don't believe a signature, when part of the digital image, adds much value to a photo. If you may become the next Ansel Adams, perhaps you might consider signing photos you consider potentially valuable works of art by hand.

If you are on a mac it can be done in preview under tools, annotate . Some groups require a watermark. It's all a personal choice.

I use Lr for mine and am careful @ opacity. I want it there, but definitely not the first thing your eye is drawn to. Best of luck.

The signature is pretty easy to see in this one. And just like signing a painting, the signature isn't there as some foolproof means of protection, it's there to let people know who created the artwork.

And that does not bother me at all!

I use Lightroom CC to watermark my photos. I also enter my name in the metadata copyright section in the development format. that way if someone tries to erase the watermark, the information is still there. I feel it is important to protect my work.

I like the subtle signature. Nice shot, too.

Definitely signed!!

I actually go through a multi step save process as I'm editing and cropping my shots.

First, I edit for colors, brightness, sharpness, and vibrancy and save it at this point. Next, I crop it to my liking and save it. Finally, I add my watermark and save it in the highest resolution. If I go to send it out, I re-save it as a smaller file. This enables me to back up to any given step without having to remove anything. I know that it adds extra files to my database, but it's a safety net.

I just drag it to any position in the picture, I feel most appropriate! I use PS, and after dragging it into the image I adjust the opacity to my liking!
So it's at best a 20 second "operation"! If you look closely at the attached pic, you'll see my avatar to the right of the rat (on the rock)!

I have struggled with watermarking photos for proof discs and Facebook. I have PSE and the best I can do is my name and limited placement. I saw an add on Facebook for "Photopolish" and watched the video. It seemed to be easy and have all the features I needed. It was priced right so I downloaded it. All I can tell you is that the program is GREAT and well worth the money. I won't go on about its virtues so you can look it up and see for yourself. photopolish.co

Photopolish =

I have this. And I do keep the opacity down as not to distract too much from the displayed image.

And I must say - It Looks a bit like my Signature.... :-)

Like another poster stated: your eyes are immediately drawn to the watermark. I then just move on, without further viewing. I guess I'm just more talented than some on this blog! ;~)

Copyright the image through the menu in your camera.

I now use a smaller "signature" watermark on any digital images that I share either online or email to friends and family.

I now try to keep this low on the shot so that it could be covered in the matting process. I've been known to color coordinate the signature to the shot if either white or black distract from, or blend into the background too much. I do this in PhotoShop using the "Text" tool which has limited fonts, I haven't used LightRoom yet.

Adding info thru the camera is not doing anything special, it is simply adding a "copyright" notice to the EXIF data - 100% editable very easily.

A Watermark is not any kind of protection either - just a signature stamp - I choose to put my name on all the shots I upload to my Flicker Account - Personally I see no detraction by placing a graphic with my initials and name in the lower right of one of my shots. I would not put a watermark on a printed image though.

Watermarks are very easily removed by almost anyone. Protection of copyright is that you maintained the original image and/or you registered the image as a copyright. Lots of discussion about which method is best.
