The interesting thing about the news report on the rifle sights is that probably more people heard the Bible verses on the news program than saw them on the scopes. Funny how things work.

You haven't answered my question about why you "used" to pack the word. Does this mean that you don't anymore?

I don't understand why Christians think they are immune to being killed by guns. It is one thing to trust in God for this and that in my life but if someone wants to kill me, well, God help me! When I was eleven years old I was shot through the neck from behind with a .22. The bullet passed through and knocked me for a loop. Some boys were playing with a 22 rifle and thought that shooting me would be fun. To this day no one who knew about the shooting will tell me who shot me. Bad things happen to even good people. You could say God saved me that day. So, why not stop the idiot from shooting me?

At least you don't blame the gun...Glad you're still with us. Being a Christian doesn't mean that you won't be subjected to pain and suffering.

I just don't carry it with me everywhere like I used to.

Bangee....Those kids were totally stupid. BB guns are one thing...they can certainly hurt but shouldn't kill. 22's are deadly firearms. Thank goodness they didn't hit your carotid or spinal column.

Almost anyone who has been the victim of a handgun or who loves someone who has been the victim of a handgun is against them, not because they want to take away the right to arm one's self but because they see handguns as too easily portable, accessible and deadly without thought. I've no problems with rifles, shotguns or similar weaponry so long as it is not an easily concealed handgun. Then again, I live in an urban area and I see the danger they pose both to the public and to the owners. If you live in a rural area, or in the suburbs, and you do not have the empathy to see the point of city dwellers, well, then, you'd reflexively disagree.

I'm not doubting you, Bruce, but I would like to see a link to the numbers showing rate of violent crime and concealed carry law. Louisiana is, by many measures the most violent state in the nation, but it does allow concealed carry.

Eugene...I have heard of guns being made for the military that have Bible verses on them as a witness. Again...I am not advocating against guns or gun ownership. I think we should all acknowledge their danger. I spoke before of a friend of ours who was murdered with her own gun. When my Dad was about 10, in the hills of W.Va, he went to a friend's house. The friend pulled out his father's squirrel gun and pointed it at my Dad and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. He then pointed at his (the friend's) brother and pulled the trigger. It went off, srtiking the boy in the stomach, killing him. This is a true story. Too many guns are not handled safely and too many innocent people are killed or injured. I don't know the answer to this problem.

This is a sad story. But the answer is EDUCATION. That is why we have gun safety. Accidents will always happen, no matter the effort to stop them.

Steve. I love you as a brother in Christ ( I truly mean that)....But think this through. He, more than likely, already owns a gun or several. What difference would yours make if that were to happen?

No. They are about being prepared.
Look, if you don't want to take precautions then fine. Don't wear your seat belt next time you get in the car and tell your loved ones to do the same. Also, take the batteries out of the smoke alarms.
What do you see wrong about owning a gun to protect yourself and the ones you love? Just in case????

Hey Steve. Read Luke 14 28 thru 31 and Mathew 24:42 thru 44

The first reference, of course, is about counting the cost of following Christ. He uses a King raising an army as an example.

The second, of a master of the house, knowing in what hour a thief would come, watching the house, to prevent theft and vandalism. Security, in this case, does not imply violence.

Sure....and if I get burlarized when I'm out of the house I may put one more gun in the hands of a sociopath....who may use it to kill somebody in the next house the enters.

If that's the case, I really don't need to get in a shootout.

I would much rather be in a shoot out with a gun than without one, wouldn't you?

It is not the State as a whole - It is New Orleans. There it is black on black killings.

yeah, no kidding, it's crazy isn't it. I couldn't believe it myself. Now I see that it's actually 82 that were killed and then there was the 184 that were shot but not killed. I'm sure this was all over Fox news and CNN wasn't it?

Nah....they get excited about lone crazed gunmen, not the scores of dead people.
