Sure…it's a fine term for both rugs and people. It's a descriptive term and IMO not derogatory at all…any more than POC or white or Indian. However…she doesn't look oriental…not many blondes overthrew and features don't appear that way to me either. She's also bigger chested than the majority of oriental woman I would say.

I believe the comment made to the OP was about the rug. Damn ! who notices this stuff anyway. So what, his work stands out and THAT is what matters. I had look hard at it just see what all the BS was about. We need to stand up to the crap, I sure do. Foto guy, keep the posts coming, they are appreciated and inspiring to us who wish to make better photographs.

For rugs, yes. For people no. Good photo by the way.

Hi all!

A very nice image! And an especially nice model!

I could never understand why some folks might think "oriental" to be a derogatory and offensive word but its definition is "of, from, or characteristic of Asia, especially East Asia; it simply means “of the Orient”, that is, “eastern”. The corresponding word referring to “western” is “occidental”.

As an American of Chinese descent, I do not find this word offensive. I've had words thrown at me that were far worse!

Be well! Ed

Thank you so much Ed for your honest and real comment. Yes,as a Texas in the US this word has always referred to anyone from that part of the world which is a generic word meaning a Geographical location where there are SOOOOOO many ethnic cultures. So the originals OP words said that some dumb ass on another site said this. Well God help up please, let us keep this UHH forum free this this kind of stupidity but I I ain't holding my breath on this brother. I get a bit upset when I this kind of crap polluting this good forum site. So I have to stand up and say my peace as you did too. I hope Photo guy kicks this commentators but to the gutter where it belongs. Ok, my words are true.

Oriental when used to describe a rug or other item is perfectly okay.
It is not okay to describe a person as Oriental.
Hope that helps.

Nothing wrong with the term. It is misused when applied in this manner. Most "oriental" rugs were woven in Persia, now Iran. Not exactly in the orient. Never really saw them in the orient. Never saw them in "Nam.

Totally loving those enchanting tousled blonde tresses so wonderfully showcased with halo illumination...
This alone takes her rendering entirely to the next level... Kudos PhotoArtist.

What follows comes what I've gleaned from working on too many commercial gigs and should not detract from your breathtaking offering here. They are only offered as food for thought since I've been called on same along my journey. First while maybe not obvious is the tension in this talents right hand/wrist. When shooting beauty/fashion editorials (what your image may be considered in my humble estimation) always coach the talent to lift her weight slightly off the hand but yet let her outstretched fingers lightly grace the carpet... This lends a gentle feminine touch to be perceived by the viewer. Yes it requires thoughtful bonding with the talent and perfect timing but art directors will insist on the aforementioned.

Loving her mauve eyes decor and lip treatment here... the gently closed eyes truly adds a dream like aura to the mix and her slightly parted lips add another lovely touch of mystique... the makeup artistry is wonderfully done.

Use of side illumination is superb for creating a three dimensional illusion in this two dimension rendering... A very elegant pose dynamic though there may likely better ways to handle her legs here. What I'm sharing is typically a crop at either the elbow or knee is generally to be avoided, again I've been called on this thus sharing same.

Hope this helps PhotoArtist or is at least food for thought...
Your work here is truly a breath of beauty within this forum, thank you so much for sharing.

Wishing you much joy for this Holiday Season!
Trust you'll be able to share with family & dear friends.

Does the use of your phrase, "woke" imply that I'm enlightened and informed, or are you acknowledging that I have empathy for others?
If someone of Asian descent finds the term Oriental to be offensive when referring to people, who are you to tell them that their feelings are wrong?
