I also keep the boxes for expensive equipment. I have also found that it helps with the resale value, and in terms of my large ham radios, it not only helps the resale, it makes shipping easier. Priced a Rolex box recently?

Just more stuff for them to keep track of and/or loose......
I suppose they are going on the premise that people will put the lens in the lens box and place that in a plain box for shipping.

Obviously - wouldn't want to damage that lens box now would you

My problem is that I keep things so long that when I'm ready to sell them, they aren't worth much. I'm ready to sell my T2i body with box, caps, charger, but what is it worth?

I'm downsizing, have been for several years now.
I have many boxes that came with the cameras, lenses, tripod, lights, etc. stored in my garage.
I'm debating whether to keep or recycle the boxes; I keep my gear in Pelican cases or plastic storage containers in the basement.

Does anyone else keep the boxes (for reselling later) or just discard? I am wondering if people even care whether their used camera/lens comes with the original manufacturer's box?

Sell them on ebay

There is some value to selling gear along with its original box. Not much but some.

So, basically, how much is the box worth?
Does it make the device any better?
Not into paying a premium, for a box...

Well I've seen boxes for Canon L series in the $50 range.

The original box helps you sell the camera if you think you might someday want to. It will add substantially to your sales price.
