This is camera equipment, not cabbage batch kids. I trash all packaging as soon as the equipment arrives and the decision to keep is made. I bring a perspective of using cameras rather than collecting them.
I will save a box from a body, lens, tripod or some other gear. I have a large plastic container where I keep the cardboard. I have no intention of selling this equipment. It is sometimes used to keep the item from collecting dust when not in use.
I'm downsizing, have been for several years now. I have many boxes that came with the cameras, lenses, tripod, lights, etc. stored in my garage. I'm debating whether to keep or recycle the boxes; I keep my gear in Pelican cases or plastic storage containers in the basement.
Does anyone else keep the boxes (for reselling later) or just discard? I am wondering if people even care whether their used camera/lens comes with the original manufacturer's box?
I keep mine in case I ever have to send in for repairs
I have a box of boxes upstairs in the garage. It seems to be an advantage to sell gear with the original packaging. If you no longer want them, you could put them on eBay.

Ask yourself that question. If you were buying a used piece of gear would you prefer to buy an item if the owner kept the original box etc. or one where the owner did not?

Myself: Neither preference. I'm buying the item, not the box. As long as the item is protected well in shipping, I'm good.

Nikon service dept told me not to send my camera in the original box. They prefer to send in as little as possible. I guess they don't want to lose something. If you send in the box they would have to keep the box and send it back to you. If you send in with ziplock bag and peanut they just throw them away and send the camera back in different packaging.

I wouldn't pay extra but I do prefer to buy from someone who has the boxes all other things being equal.

I'd think little of someone wasting the money to send me a box and packaging I'm going to just throw away.
Got in trouble with my wife once while selling @ a flea market many years ago. Had a classic Mid 60's Kodak snapshot camera in the original box. Got a good offer on the BOX not the camera. Sold the box. [ NOT the Camera ] Got in trouble...

Yes, but the point is that some people like having all the original packaging, and offering that on eBay will usually result in a higher price - from those who like boxes. Selling gear is the only reason I keep the boxes. I seldom use the strap that comes with the camera, so it's still neatly wrapped in its plastic bag. Posting that picture on eBay helps.
My problem is that I keep things so long that when I'm ready to sell them, they aren't worth much. I'm ready to sell my T2i body with box, caps, charger, but what is it worth?
