I'm downsizing, have been for several years now.
I have many boxes that came with the cameras, lenses, tripod, lights, etc. stored in my garage.
I'm debating whether to keep or recycle the boxes; I keep my gear in Pelican cases or plastic storage containers in the basement.

Does anyone else keep the boxes (for reselling later) or just discard? I am wondering if people even care whether their used camera/lens comes with the original manufacturer's box?

I've kept most of mine, and just used them to repackage several items of equipment "like new" to sell used to B&H. I'm happy I kept mine since I just sold a lot of Canon EF gear to upgrade to RF. It helped get good value selling used.

I get rid of the boxes for everything after all appears well with the device.

I wouldn't care if I bought a used item and it didn't come with the original box, as long as the unit was packaged safely for shipping. (If it did come in the box, I'd throw the box away anyway....)
I don't need 50+ empty boxes in the garage, attic, or basement.)

As for re-selling - Are people going to say "That's a fine looking box!"?
Or will they say "That's a fine looking lens."....

Hello
Most of my camera boxes, and camera lenses I keep. So if I sell them it works out great. But that works for me.

A lot of people really prefer the original box that the camera/lens came in. In many cases it does affect resale value. I have always kept mine and found it helpful for resale.

I have dozens of camera gear boxes in the basement. I also use Pelican cases and cases I bought at Harbor Freight.

I see a lot of boxes for lenses and cameras on eBay. They seem to command decent prices.

So, basically, how much is the box worth?
Does it make the device any better?
Not into paying a premium, for a box...

This is camera equipment, not cabbage batch kids. I trash all packaging as soon as the equipment arrives and the decision to keep is made. I bring a perspective of using cameras rather than collecting them.

I did save the boxes from only my high value stuff. I just discard all the inner structures and folded them flat. If I sell "with box" I have plenty of bubble wrap to pad the interior.

The boxes are to be discarded if Im still using a "mkII" when the "mkIV" comes out. Boxes are really only meaningful for reasonably recent gear (and acoarst true collectibles that I dont have).

Brown boxes get shredded and go right into the compost pile.
Everything else...thrown out.

I'm not collecting gear...I am using it.

I keep them until wintertime... together with my stockpile of firewood.

I have sold camera equipment on ebay for years, and I have found that generally I get more money for equipment that I have the original boxes for. Besides, those original boxes make shipping equipment easier an safer.

I keep the boxes because it is no problem to do so. They are stacked in the corner of a closet. Out of sight, out of mind. I don't keep gear forever. When I buy a new piece of gear I usually have an older piece that I sell. The boxes are perfect for shipping. That's what the manufacturer designed them for. No hunting for a box and packaging materials and minimal worry about shipping damage.
