When I was a kid, those large boxes became forts and clubhouses.

Yes, but the point is that some people like having all the original packaging, and offering that on eBay will usually result in a higher price - from those who like boxes. Selling gear is the only reason I keep the boxes. I seldom use the strap that comes with the camera, so it's still neatly wrapped in its plastic bag. Posting that picture on eBay helps.

That's precisely why I have a stack of camera and lens boxes in the top shelf of an upstairs closet. The only downside is you lose a few cubic feet of out of the way storage space. Including the box never ever reduces the sale price and at a minimum, attract more bidders.

I sell and trade a lot of my gear through my longtime camera dealer.

I absolutely get more for the sale or trade from this dealer if I have the original packing, as the dealer can charge a buyer more for gear in the original boxes, and the gear is much more presentable in his store in its original boxes.

So throwing away these boxes would be throwing away money in the end. I have a storage locker anyway, so no problem keeping the boxes safely there until I need them.

Cheers and best to you all.

Absolutely. Having sold several cameras and lenses via eBay I also learned that good quality photos matter, and the more the better. Additionally, the more info you provide as well as extras like batteries, a case/bag, lens or body caps... It all matters to prospective buyers. I would love to have the boxes for my gear so that if I go to sell it, I have that little extra.

I would also clean all lenses, cameras and equipment when prepping to ship. I found that the details matter when it comes to seller ratings.

That seems to be pushing it a bit - $10 per box? At least he's offering free shipping.
