According to a new report by the CDC, 70% of the people who contracted the disease said they always wore a mask.
Another 14% said they wore a mask only sometimes.
However this is in my opinion very misleading. After reading extensively about this disease and it’s transmission potential for months now, I’ve concluded that wearing a mask does not protect you from transmission. However if you wear a mask and an infected person wears their mask, your chances of contracting the virus then becomes dramatically reduced.
A Doctor wears a mask when operating on a person during a surgical procedure to prevent germs from infecting the patient. The same holds true here in the transmission of this disease.
Summary; EVERYONE needs to wear a mask! Containment stops transmission, or at a minimum, reduces it dramatically.
Stay safe everyone, wear a mask.

I think everyone knows that now, but people still keep talking about the size of the virus, which is irrelevant.

This conclusion is close to reasonable for contraction via the respiratory track, but not necessarily for other means. An infected person sneezes unto a surface, you come along and unwittingly put your hand down. Next a speck gets in your eye and you use a finger on your eye. You are now infected.

N95 are made in the US. KN95 are made in China. I have a good supply of KN95, and wear them all the time.

Let me add this. The virus is killed when exposed to UV-C light. A four hospital network here in St. Louis has in fact, created a room in which the KN95 masks are hung up over night, and the exposed to a strong UV-C light.

And let me add that you and I can purchase UV-C battery lights for less than $50. We then can sterilize our masks at the end of the day.

Personally, I wouldn't trust anything made in China for my health protection. Where did Covid-19 originate?

I hate going into a store and workers and shoppers wear the mask like a chin strap. When people get the virus and tell the medical group they always wear a mask, I doubt most wear it correctly.

Sounds like folks in West Virginia need to be educated how to dress.

I was in a Walmart this morning where workers and customers all seemed to get it right.

Are you sure all N95 masks are made in the US?

My son bought a mask like this - just for fun. Have you seen the video of the guy leaving Walmart dressed like your picture? I olden days, they put spices and stuff inside that long nose as a filter.

I wonder if covid infection via eye contamination is really as easy as you seem to imply it is. I wish some of our medical folks would chime in on this....

The real problem seems to be even less complicated:

1. Too many people are (apparently) too stupid to grasp the simple concept that wearing a mask is to protect OTHERS, not oneself. If everyone is protecting everyone else when in proximity, the problem will be eradicated

2. Too many people are sufficiently selfish and uncaring that not protecting others isn't a concern for them, so stay as far from non-wearers as possible. These social lepers are not people you want in your life anyway, and if they infect each other, so what?

And yes, a properly worn N95 or better will help protect the wearer from inhaled matter as well as protecting others.

I wonder how many non-wearers would be happy to see their surgical team not wearing masks?

If masks work why do all the states with mask mandates still have increases in cases?

No worries. I bought that when all this falderol started back in March. I'm not sure if I'm going to do anything for Halloween or not.

That's cool. Seems he and I have similar tastes, or mental disorders.

With a very few people I know, the idea of stuffing the nose with aromatics seems like a good idea.

some of the ones who always wore a mask did in fact go to places where they briefly took them off (eg,a restaurant) and probably were infected then. Most exposures occur in closed spaces and depend on the duration of being exposed. The discomfort that some people claim that the mask subjects them to is in my opinion far outweighed by the benefit of staying out of hospital or just being alive.

A better question is why those states without mandates or policies have more.
