Julie, when you respond to a post you need to go to "quote reply" That way the person's comments will come in on top of your reply.

Don't fret, though, this is a very common thing with new people, we've almost all done it. :D

If it's my comments you are talking about in the sky, well skies are not usually white. When they come out that way in a pictures it usally means that you had your camera settings to high and too much light got in. If you had a polorize filter it would have corrected the problem. If you camera can take a filter. (don't know what kind of camera you have.) So this point could be mute.

Let us know what kind of camera and lens you have, we will be better able to help you.

As far as the "rules of thirds" go you will here that again and again on the forum. Some people can give you a direct link to it. I just don't have it.
Basically most pictures are more interesting if taken and edited in the 1/3 rule. Please do look it up, you may find it helpful.
Again, please don't take critique to harshly. It is ment to help you, not make you feel bad about your photo's.

Lol I have to disagree on "white skies". I live in the Pacific Northwest and we see a lot of White and Gray skies.. not alot of blue here. heehee

Rule of thirds is where you put an imaginary tic tac toe grid in your view finder then you place your main subject on the vertical line insted of in the middle of the picture. your off centering the main subject.

That's basically true, but not always, especially if moving the subject off center, puts something in your shot that is not desirable. Just because something is centered, doesn't always make it a bad picture. Rules are always meant to be broken.

pretty sure you asked for critique, which is what she offered, you just didn't like the fact that she didn't tell you your pictures were great.

Hey we've all been there, I recall the first time on of my images got torn apart, it was on a whole different forum where they don't pull any punches, there is no sugar coating or hand-hold, you get your heart ripped out and handed to you on dirty plate. You know what I did after I licked my wounds, I went right back to that forum and I thanked those members for taking the time out of there day to offer me advice, Not once did I post something snarky or snobby...

this is my last post to you, good luck on your journey.

Hey MWAC, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that maybe the site you're talking about is photosig. Am I right? Their a really stern site on critiquing photos but if you look at some of the photos and photogs you begin to realise that some of them are really really high end photogs.

As MWAC has already pointed out, you did ask for critiques. If you can't put your big girl pants on, then don't ask. This is a friendly forum, the people are nice and above all civil to each other. If you want to learn, listen to those who offer suggestions. Everyone's opinion is just opinion, but they can open your thought process. I break the rule of thirds all the time, because, in my opinion, many of my subjects look better that way.

Right there with ya, Tracey.

And something else:
There is a difference between "Critique".... and "Criticism".

Perhaps a dictionary or Wikipedia may help clear up the confusion for Julie and others like her.

Ok Rach….how long have you been doing photography? what are your credentials?

You should know and understand that credentials in photography dont mean a thing. The object is to make photographs for your own satisfaction and if someone else likes them all well and good. There is only one letter . an H between Photograph and PHOTOCRAP. When you put pictures here you invite critsism and praise, were deserved. Every poster here, (and my CREDENTIALS are as a member of the Master Photographers Association and the biggest pro organisation in Britain the Institute of British Photographers. You do not and cannot buy into these organizations, you earn it, in my case with 45 years as an apprentice, assistant, and then as an owner of several sucessful industrial and commercial photographic studios.

However for all my experience I still invite and regularly get harsh critisism from fellow posters and my wonderful fiancee( a prolific poster and superb photographer in her own right) in fact she is wicked in her views of my work.

The other anazing thing with this site is that everybody is attempting to help others in making standards hiher and higher. Some people get beligerent in their manners and send nasty and sexy PM's to their opponents. That just shows how ignorant some people are. If any reader here does that, I suggest you forgo your childish urges and desist immediatly. Every one of the young ladies deserves respect from all the guys here.

All kidding aside, too much time spent and wasted (most likey) on closed minds.
