Julie (notice I called you by your name?) You need to grow up. I have no idea how old you are, but I'm going to give you some much needed criticism right now and for once I'm not going to try and sugar coat a darn thing.
Your pictures at best are sub-par, boring and bland, they are nothing to write home about. You have a lot to learn about photography, how to take advice and criticism with grace. You need to practice and learn everything you can and take the advice that people are willing to offer you.
You have been told over and over again to learn the Rules of Thirds, have you even googled it yet? Judging by today's "wonderful" images I'm going to go out on a limb and say nope, that would mean actually doing something for yourself. Learn how to straighten a horizon while your at it.
Can you do me (and maybe a few other members of this board) a huge favor.. maybe post ONE beepin' thread a day with your mundane mediocre images. Thanks... oh and by the way... I have placed you on my mental ignore list... I will NOT be taking the time out of my day to offer you any more advice or share any of the knowledge I have learned in my photography journey.
Thank you.

Pls critique..thanks
pretty sure you asked for critique, which is what she offered, you just didn't like the fact that she didn't tell you your pictures were great.
Hey we've all been there, I recall the first time on of my images got torn apart, it was on a whole different forum where they don't pull any punches, there is no sugar coating or hand-hold, you get your heart ripped out and handed to you on dirty plate. You know what I did after I licked my wounds, I went right back to that forum and I thanked those members for taking the time out of there day to offer me advice, Not once did I post something snarky or snobby...
this is my last post to you, good luck on your journey.

Julie ~

wow... what a firefight!
Julie, i don't know you, and you don't know me, but i do think you oughta lighten up just a bit. no one's trying to hurt your feelings or slam your work. if you ask people for a critique, you have to be prepared for some negative comments. it's part of the process. and asking everyone who offers a less-than-favorable review of your work what their credentials are is a sure-fire way to turn people off. i'm guessing you haven't been at this photography thing long, at least not seriously, or you'd know about things like the rule of thirds. but you seem to have a good eye, and your photos show a lot of promise. don't dismiss the advice or ideas from others who've been doing it for a while and may have learned a thing or two that you haven't yet.
that said, i do like your shots. the one with the road and trees has nice leading lines, and draws the viewer into the scene. the sky doesn't help, but where i live, in Washington state, we get that kind of sky a lot, and frankly, there's not a damned thing you can do with it unless you're a photoshop whiz and can replace it with something prettier, but given all those branches, that's just not workable.
i really like the puffball. the reflection off your thumbnail (i assume that's what it is) in the lower left is a bit distracting, but the rest of the image is well done, and not something one usually sees. a very unique photo.
the rose is clearly the prettiest of the three, with the rest of the 'spray' from the bouquet and the water drops. looks a little soft, even where it should be sharp, but that might be due to the image compression that happens when images upload to this site. i've seen images that i know are sharp and clear appear a bit soft when they're uploaded here, so i tend to cut people a little more slack on focus issues...
just my 2 cents...
Julie...I will not critique your images as I think you want feel good comments. I can tell you that Rachael and MWAC only tried to give you fair critiques. I can relate to not liking to be critiqued unless they are all good. That's why I do not post pics.
I would suggest you read the posts, use the suggestions and thank those that took the time to give you comments.
I have been shooting pictures for 50 years off and on and still attend classes, go to seminars and read forums to make me a better photographer. Good luck going forward.

perhaps instead of photography you should have learned english, or even good manners. The 2 people you got so snarky with are excellant photographers, who have learned alot since coming here, they are also very talented and are among the most HELPFULL people . Before you start in on my qualifications, I have been a photographer for 43 years, was my high school newspaper photographer, was trained by my father who was a professional photographer (US ARMY signal corps, brooks institute of photography) I currently am the church photographer, and will be teaching a class on photography. I think I'm qualified.
readng your posts and noticing how quiclkly they deginerate, into inchoherent ramblings i have to ask, are you drunk? stoned? or off your meds? Maybe 14 years old? I would compliment you on your 2nd photo, the best of the lot but feel it would be casting pearls before swine. Almost all the posters here I consider friends, and I resent some snot nosed punk treating them disrepectfully . Grow Up. Perhaps a 4 yr stint in the MARINES would knock the snot out of you.

This is not an acceptable example of "civil discourse" in an environment that is supposed to be about learning.

she isn't civil and we need to shun her like the Amish.

Agreed! If only she could learn from this experience and not repeat it at other forums or in life. That is the learning experience I hope she takes away from this thread. I have no ill will nor loathing for this person, but totally reject the conduct. If I can paraphrase what I was taught: "Love the sinner, but hate the sin." I think that is appropriate here and leaves some room for Julie to redeem herself.
