Well, it's in the planning stage but it seems Pentax is going to be making a new film camera. Keep in mind, planning doesn't mean moving forward.

This per dpreview.

Well, theyve made all the right moves to maintain their spot at the pinnacle of the industry and this should be the capstone.

Acoarst we have very little info. If it uses Instax film then it might actually achieve some fairly modest level of semi-success.

The people running that company are idiots. I'll bet it has a mirror in it. Consistency is the key to success.

Apparently, their thinking is guided by the ‘Contax T3’ - which is a “cult favorite” at eBay.

No, satisfying their customers {mostly Japanese artists} is the key to success.

I would expect a new digital SLR or a mirrorless but never a film camera.
There must be something I do not know.

Then, they move on to a buggy whip upgrade.

No the first one they want to make has no mirror. It would be better if they start with one that has mirror. However, I like most of their old manual focus film cameras except the K1000. But after they moved to AF they haven't made a single camera I would want. So perhaps going back to the very old design is better for them.

They are talking a pocketable camera.
Apparently people some people are very passionate in favor of the Contax T3. Ricoh does like to collect Passionate people - they are not very easily swayed by the “camera of the day” talk.

“Ricoh pocketable GR” would probably give you a more accurate picture than Pentax mirror SLR” would.

I'll stick with the original version of the Pentax K1000 which was purchased by my wife in the mid 1970's with a 50mm f/2 lens. It's been cared for over the years, and still looks and works almost as good as new.

It's not used very much anymore, but it is comforting to know it is still there and very usable.

Just a reminder:
[While both technologies are obsolete], vinyl record sales overtook CD 💿 sales in 2020 AND are running about 3x CD sales in 2022.
People still view and buy paintings, which are FAR from current technology...
Just got back from a cruise 🛳 where the 📷 Camera Shop was pretty much selling ONLY Go-Pro and Instant Cameras!

Stateside, my big question is whether they can provide the necessary processing services.

As Ricoh/Pentax already own all of the needed technology & production assets, I would not bet AGAINST something coming from their innovative.
