Just got back from a cruise 🛳 where the 📷 Camera Shop was pretty much selling ONLY Go-Pro and Instant Cameras!
Stateside, my big question is whether they can provide the necessary processing services.
As Ricoh/Pentax already own all of the needed technology & production assets, I would not bet AGAINST something coming from their innovative.

I occasionally run a roll of film thru a camera that I’ve had for many years, having the film developed by my local camera shop. There are also ‘mail-order’ sources of film and providers of developing services in the U.S.; I would expect there are sources of film and providers of developing in almost every country.

What are you assuming about the film camera they are looking at?

I think he meant there is no film to shoot with the brand new film camera. I shoot Ektachrome and just check with B&H and it's not in stock and they want $20 for a roll of 35 exp.
So while my film cameras are old I have enough of them so that for the rest of my life I am sure I would have a working film camera but I am not sure I can buy or afford film.

I only recently bought a Pentax Z-1, the camera my wife told me to get to get rid of a few years back..
I'm curious what my level of photography will be with film compared to 1980, now that I really learned how to shoot with my DSLR.
A lot of younger people are buying old SLR's that hardly anybody can service. I think it is a good idea from Pentax to target the niche. I wouldn't be surprised if the SLR's turn out to be top notch with lots of unexpected features....Let's wait and see..

I don ‘t know what the supply of film is like in Japan.
I also expect the supply of film at B&H reflects local demand.
Ricoh is insular.
They usually produce for the home market, and the rest of us may use their products if we want to. They have released several videos about this project. Supply issues are not mentioned, so I expect that Japanese users can get the film they want and are willing to pay current prices.
Incidentally, they talk about starting with compact cameras, then working their way ‘up’. They say they need to do this while they can, while older engineers are still around to act as consultants for the younger engineers.

It would be strange to have more films in Japan as I heard Fuji stopped making film and Kodak still makes film in the USA.

We have plenty in the US, but a given distributor may keep only so much on hand because only so much is demanded.
Considering the current
"supply chain" limitations on film/processing, it might be nice to have a "New" SLR with enough automation to "Guarantee" each shot would turn out. Sill allow for pro settings as well.

It is without the automation you're more likely to have every shot turns out.

Well, it's in the planning stage but it seems Pentax is going to be making a new film camera. Keep in mind, planning doesn't mean moving forward.
This per dpreview.

It’s nice to see that Pentax still has their fingers on the pulse of the market! 😜🤪🤣

I think the AUTO would at least give you a centerline to adjust from.

What do you mean to adjust from?
