Ricoh has announced that their Pentax brand will create a new film camera
https://news.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/rim_info2/2022/20221220_037861.htmlThey have given themselves time to think about it.
Will this be in the same price range as their K-1?
Will they use their most-modern “KAF4” mount?
At least the needed infrastructure has revived in recent years.

I had heard about this long ago. I still own Pentax film cameras, Spotmatic, K2 DMD, K1000. I now share lenses with my Pentax DSLRs. I do wish Pentax had a MILC with a EVF and not only a screen. Hard to figure Pentax users wanting new film cameras even though I have owned 19 Pentax cameras.

I also don’t understand their aversion to EVFs.
They are directed by Japanese culture, not by marketing in the West.
They say they want to make photography “fun” again; it must make sense in their minds.
I still have several film cameras by Pentax in my closet, the “Super Program” I purchased in 1983 used for twelve years, and the “Spotmatic” I purchased recently “just because”. If I have a desire to use film, I will use one of them. Unless there is something I haven’t thought of, they won’t get any of my money for this thing.
A film camera in 2022, almost 2023, when the big companies are already making mirrorless bodies? I am no expert in finances but it looks to me as a backward step.
In my humble opinion the Pentax/Ricoh company will be in better shape going with the flow that right now is manufacturing mirrorless cameras.
I wish them a good outcome on this one.

As a current Pentax user, I am discouraged. I could accept their staying with DSLR - instead of their putting an EVF on the K-01 that they did develop - but I already own four working film cameras in my closet. I switched from Pentax to Canon {because of their quiet EF-lenses} in 1995, made the transition to digital with Canon, then switched back to Pentax in 2015 {when I was let down by Canon’s Rebel bodies}. I am now in my 70’s, and don’t feel I had another switch in me, so I hope my current KP will last as long as I do. I have a scanner and am slowly moving from analog to digital, and don’t intend to go back to slides.

Has the development costs, timing, quality, and availability improved since the era when digital replaced film?

I believe some digital cameras focus faster on moving subjects than they did when I switched from film to digital in 2007. Before I switched, I had a professional scan some of my Kodachrome 25 slides, and I determined that the slides basically had the detail of a 3000x2000 digital image; 4mp or 5mp was common back then.

I have three old film cameras, one Petri and two Pentax K1000. Doubt I'd buy a new film camera, I keep the ones I have for sentimental reasons. I have wondered if I could still take a decent photo with a film camera.
I like to see more good film cameras made. I don't think I need film cameras as much as I need film. I have about 30 film cameras and they would last me a long time but my film supply isn't that great.

I {still} buy film at my local camera store.
