What I have been doing on vacations is I bring many SD cards and every day I change out a card. This way if you lose or damage a card you just have lost one day of memories. The WD passport is also a good tool.

The RAW plus JPEG "fine" did downloaded both images.
BTW, when I go through LR Develop, not Library, would I need to "seperate" the RAW from JPEG for editing purposes; if using this RAW option?
I separated the RAW and JPEG in different folders in Windows ONE TIME.
After a month I found out it was such a pain having them in separate locations, I put them all back in the same folder.
If you would use "Quote Reply", that would be great.

Your first question never mentioned, loss of the camera. If you lose either one you are; SOL.

Once it's gone, it's gone... been years since I lost anything, but, it can happen.

Call me neurotic, but... Just returned from a 3 week trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. I traveled with 10 CD cards, all packed in hard wallet cases. I also traveled with a small MAC Book Air along with 2 external hard drives. Every night I downloaded all my photos for the day, not only on my computer, into Bridge, but also organized onto 2 external drives. I never put my computer, camera or drives anywhere except in my carry ons. Uploading everyday also helped me cull overnight so I didn't come home with thousands of unwanted pictures.
This definitely requires more juggling, but if you value your photos, and we all do, you can't take any chances. (I also brought a second camera body with me-just in case!)
The Tab A does have a micro SD card slot.
I use a Samsung Tab S2 in conjunction with the Kingston Mobilelite, portable hard drive, micro sd cards and flash drives when we travel. I end up with one copy on the hard drive, a copy on a flash drive that I carry at all times, the original on the SD card and, for viewing on the tablet I will copy selected images to the micro sd card.
I twice had cards go bad, if I hadn't tried to back them up I would not have known and would have lost many more images.
Wed travel with enough SD cards that we generally do not need to reformat them during a trip so we come home with three copies.
Jsykes, thank you for your service

I use a RAVPower WD-03 to transfer sd card images to an ssd (can also use a thumbdrive). Both raw and jpeg. You can also use the same device to save to an iPad, but personally I’ve had problems saving raw this way.
Trick I learned long time ago was first photo on card is your contact info in case you lose it. Most people don't want your photos. I found sd card on street all little league photos. No way to return it.

What are the options when out of town/country to back up images on an SD card with no access to a computer?
Related question. If using an iPad to transfer from the camera does it automatically convert RAW to JPEG if you use the iPad to later download (via home computer) to your back up hard drive?
My hubby and I take several trips each year with one of those usually being about a month long. I journal every night and use the photos I took that day to insert into the journals. My iPad Pro has 256gb capacity, more than enough for several thousand raw photos. I use a USB-C to SD Card reader to transfer each day’s photos (available from Apple for $39). All the images are brought into the Photos app as raw, then imported into LRCC, also as raw. I’ll generally delete the ones in the Photos app (and clear out the “recently deleted” folder at the same time since I won’t need two copies on my iPad). Most of these steps I have automated using a Siri shortcut (
https://youtu.be/FMlGgjTyx7A). Because all of my photos are now in LRCC, they sync to my LR Classic and when I get home, I don’t have to transfer again, just start following my normal LR process.
With regard to your question about converting from raw to jpeg, LR handles that when you export an image, either on the iPad or from your desktop.
Happy traveling!!!

I have a PDF file in the root directory of my cards that is called OwnerInfo.pdf That provides a cell number and states that I would like it back, and will reimburse for mailing. (No address as if it is found while I'm on vacation, they will know that the house might be empty.)
(If I ever have to format the card, I have to re-copy the file to the card.)
When I travel I have a card for each day . Get home and download them . They are safe this way.
For many years when I go on extended trips I've used a Sanho Hyperdrive Colorspace UDMA to download my cards daily. While somewhat expensive it has never let me down and eliminates needing to travel with a bunch of cards.
