Thanks for the lecture !!

Hold on there tiger! It’s not a lecture, it’s play safe. Loss of lmages is completely different too loss of hardware. Are you frightened of being robbed?

I served in Europe, the Middle East and SE Asia so I am very capable of looking after myself

The question came about for two reasons namely the loss of a camera and or SD cards which I qualified earlier

I recently returned from a four week trip to Australia and NZ where I took thousands of of photos; I am a novice photographer.

I was in Christchurch exactly one week to the day (and the time) that that the white supremacist decided to do what he did. I took photographs in the Botanical Gardens and Hagley Park, both adjoin the synagogue where the first attack took place. I had my camera bag and SD cards with me; so the event made me think about back up when something might happen that is out out my control

The only thing that could help you then is a WiFi SD card send the images to a tablet then when possible up to the cloud πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Thanks

Just tried a couple of things

Took some shots with both (i) RAW and ii) RAW + JPEG "Fine version"; both options are on my Canon T6 menu

When I downloaded (i) to an iPad, it saved as RAW. When I downloaded (ii) it was saved as a JPEG

It that is true of (ii) then I obviously need to ensure my setting is (i) if I think of using an iPad as back up

I also assume that even if I use RAW (only) there is probably a limit if utilizing the iPad wrt memory

Thanks br br Just tried a couple of things br br... (show quote)

When you used ii, the camera should have created both RAW+JPEG files. How are you transferring the files? I use RAW+JPEG(fine) on my T1i and get two files per image in the camera. I transfer both to the computer.

The Canon Camera connect (wireless)

The RAW plus JPEG "fine" did downloaded both images.

BTW, when I go through LR Develop, not Library, would I need to "seperate" the RAW from JPEG for editing purposes; if using this RAW option?

Sorry, stated this wrong. RAW plus JPEG downloaded as JPEG

RAW was RAW

Use a camera with two card slots, dupe shots onto the second card, keep one shot card in a card wallet, and the other in the camera, or a second card wallet. The odds of losing both cards-from separate locations-are slim. Keep several cards handy for rotation.

Besides an iPad I have a Galaxy Tab A which does not have an SD card slot just the Charging Port. Do you know if there are SD card readers that could utilize the charger port?
Yes there are - use to plug into my cell phone to transfer photos from reader to phone to email back to Walgreens so they were ready for Vets returning from their Honor Flight. About $6-8 on Amazon, assume would work on a Tab A.

I use Eye-Fi SD cards in all my cameras, I use the "Keenai" app to copy my photographs my to my phone on the go, this could be what you need, it will not transfer RAW though.

I have a 10" Samsung Galaxy tablet. It has a micro SD card slot. It also has a USB/Charging port. With an USB adapter, you can copy SD card files to the micro SD card for backups. Micro SD cards have become cheap enough that, for backups, this is feasible.

AFAIK, iPads don't have card slots, so it wouldn't work.

You can get an SD card dongle for an iPad.
