I leave mine at home. I always keep a good quality UV filter on the lens.

Well, fat lotta good your cap left at home is gonna do you, when the rain-clouds burst ...

Ever think about that, Reinaldo?

Not to be difficult but I doubt the temperature on the inside of a pocket is so different that it would matter one way or the other. I put the cap in my pocket every which way in all variations of temperature and have never seen any difference.

Seems like yet another sound reason to tether your cap, I'd say ....

I cut the dime sized self adhesive button off. I drill a hole in to the outside edge of the cap and feed the string through, knot it a dab epoxy on the knot so it can't unravel. The other end with the elastic band designed to go around the lens, gets fed through the metal ring that I've attached to the lug.

Is it even as big as a dime, Andy?

Well, after doing all that ... you're not gonna lose ANY part of that assembly, are ya, now?

Good thinking, Andy ...

But, remember - when it comes trade-in, time ... that bastardized cap ... ain't gonna be worth a plug nickel!

I have never lost a cap, battery or card. I don’t need a leash to keep track of my things.

I've never lost a battery, either, Dennis ...

But caps are a different matter ... you know - you have it in your hand, standing on a dam ... start to lose your balance, and - whoops!

Same thing - on top of a mountain ... two ways ... I've lost caps ...

Never lost a card, either - until a couple of weeks back ...

But, I'm pretty sure someone slipped it out of my cam whilst I was dealing with my dog ...

Went back, after I got home and was about to upload ... couldn't find it, anywhere ...

And, if it DID slip out of the camera, accidentally ... that'll be the very FIRST time THAT ever happened ....

My bridge camera w/o interchangeable lens came with a tethered cap, so I kept it. My other interchangeable lens camera lenses have removable caps that I usually put in my pocket and let my wife bring them back to me after she does the laundry. (At least I am honest and don't pretend to have a perfect memory or work flow that renders me capable of remembering to put the cap back on when I finish shooting!) I clean my lenses a lot. Oh, yes, BTW I have bought replacement caps a few times.

In the bag or pocket. several lenses are the same size so I put the cap on the lens being removed from the one being put on when possible.

Sounds like the tether arrangement you got used to, with your bridge - would serve you well, with your DSLR, too, then, Cambria ...

You can pick 'em up at any photo supply house ... not that expensive ... here, they charge a buck ... not sure how much where YOU are!

Ah, but, Cambria ... does she bring them back to you AFTER she washes them, or - before?

ChrisT- You're probably right that that adhesive button isn't even the size of a dime, but couldn't come up with another comparison. Not worried about trade-in time. The only time I did that was when I closed by wedding business. In 10 yrs though the "I'll have this one new camera forever" has somehow become a new collection.

Yeah, but, Arch ...

How often do you change lenses, in the field, from one to the next - with the same diameter lens filter thread?

If you're going from a prime to a UWA ... bound to be wider - no?

Yeah, I know what you mean, Andy ...

I'm the same way ... got my first dig cam in 2010 ... now, two dozen later ... wondering what all the fuss was about ....

BTW, Andy ...

I'm just Chris, now ...

The T's been spaced ... (first letter of last name - the way it shoulda been, in the first place - but, wasn't sure it'd be accepted that way!)

All my lens caps as well as hot shoe covers spend all their time collecting dust in a closet.
