A new Department of Homeland Security rule bans all electronic devices “larger than a smartphone” from the cabins of all flights coming to the U.S. from ten international airports.

This ban was originally reported as airlines making the rules and that is where i am coming form. The air lines have lost my business years ago and I will never fly again in my life, so I do not follow the industry, just go by what you guys report here.

Ok I leave in the morning, for a meeting in El Paso that afternoon then on to LA for a meeting the next morning. From there return to the office that afternoon for work the next morning. Try that driving and by train. And PS when governing agencies require actual physical presence and observation you can't telecommute. Illegal.

Sounds like a scheduling problem to me.

That is a problem, getting your news from "what you guys report here". You are entirely misinformed on your premise that the airline are the originator of the new safety rules for electronics and batteries that are being considered to ensure security and safety on passenger airlines. It sounds like you are not accustomed to air travel so I understand your not knowing the nuance and details of the authorities, organizations and processes that evaluate and implement security requirements and regulations.

This is an enthusiast forum for photography. It is mostly based upon opinion, advocacy and conjecture. If you want to educate yourself on the state of air travel, security and regulations, there are myriad places that can provide current, credible information. I always strive to be informed and not throw a lot of rumor and speculation into such an important issue that effects most of us. I don't have the luxury of not using airlines as I travel every week for my job. If you want to participate in a rational discussion get educated.

It was reported here as an airline thing. People here also reported that "real" cameras were banned from the Indy 500, and they continued to claim that even when several of us posted quotes from, and links to, the actual rules. The problem is that anyone can proclaim on-line, but Fake News is not limited to politics. I have to see something from two or three disparate sources before I think it might be true.

I only responded to what another hog had previously reported. As I said, I will have nothing to do with the airlines since my last illegal abusive treatment from American Airlines in Dallas and neither the airline nor the government will lift a finger. They can all go to hell as far as I'm concerned. I can tell you that all this security BS that they have imposed is nothing more than crap to program us to accept any crap they throw in our face. How little everyone's memories are when they started all this harassment and several reporters and people successfully smuggled all kinds of guns, knives and you name it on the planes. I personally experienced, shortly after 911, and we were under the tightest of all security measures, and I was in the Albuquerque airport waiting for a plane and right in front of me a man went out a door which went out to the tarmac. An alarm immediately went off. I timed how long it too security to come to check it out. There was no action anywhere on the tarmac to look for him and it took a security officer 23 minutes to even come and check the door. He walked over and slammed it shut and turned around and walked away; not even asking anyone a single question. If their BS makes yo feel more secure to fly, then I hate to tell you how uninformed and knowledgeable of the facts you really are.

I needed assistance to get on the puddle jumper which required going up stairs to get on it. I had my carry on bag which had some lenses in it, including a Nikon 16mm f2.8 lens. The flight attendant took my carry on bag for me as I ascended the stairs. Behind my back without saying anything, he threw it in the cargo hold. When I got to the top of the stairs I turned to get my carry on bag (understand this was my return trip, so I had done the same thing a few days before with no problem) and they said it was thrown in the cargo bay. I explained it had expensive lenses in it (I had others in there too) and I needed it up here. They not only refused to get it but told me (very nastily and for no reason - the other passengers were shocked at their behavior) that if i didn't immediately shut up and sit down I would be thrown off the plane. When I arrived at my destination, the personnel from the airport retrieved my carry on bag for me and took it into the airport for me and we opened it to check my lenses. The 16mm had it's lens hood bent. They wrote me a letter explaining the situation and told me to report it to the head office of American the next day. The letter explained the situation in detail. American refused to do a thing as did the federal government when I reported to them. That abuse ruined my 16mm lens and I could nothing done about it anywhere. I had a right to have my carry on bag on the plane with me. The flight attendant was abusive, threatening and a first class a*s and he was allowed to get away with it and get away with destroying an almost $1000 lens. Bottom line, the airlines are allowed to treat you in any harassing, tyrannic way they want to and get away with it. Think I will ever fly again, think again!

Suddenly, your posts make much more sense. And your anger is certainly understandable. There are jerks in every airline, but also in every industry, profession, and neighborhood. I have had difficulty with United Airlines - although I was not beaten up and dragged off one of their airplanes. But it did not put me off flying anywhere, at any time. I used to travel 40 weeks per year, for work; I could not afford to refuse to fly, but I did take United off my list. On the other hand, I would suggest that your anger has pushed your limits of understanding of the circumstances to an irrational level. Some of the information you impart and your assumptions of the legal marketplace is simply incorrect.

Nothing illegal. Just not nice perhaps but not illegal. You need to study up on the law a bit.
You would be laughed at if you tried to bring any charges. Perhaps a small claims court for damage but there was no illegal criminal activity.
Your feelings were hurt but thankfully that does not ride to illegal yet.

Call it what you want but to say I had my feelings hurt is bullshit! They damaged a thousand dollar piece of equipment and violated ADA too, which is a federal law. If that's not illegal, then I have swamp land for you.

How was ADA violated?
Please cite.
And your feelings are not ADA regulated and not actionable.
So go cry in a corner or grow up.

The requirements for 'puddle jumpers' are not the same as standard midsize or large jets. Sometimes carry on luggage needs to be gate checked. If you didn't pack properly that is not the airline's fault. They can be good or bad, but packing properly and understanding what you can or cannot take on the plane always involves some responsibility on behalf of the traveler.

This is the case at Williamsport. My wife just retired as a CSR there.

Try again; it was a carry on bag and if you could read, you know when I left on the same plane earlier. there were no problems. The problem was an a+s employee who should have been fired and my lens replaced or fixed. There was nothing wrong with the way I packed the lens as long as the bag went on the the plane with me. You idiots can make all the excuses you want as you always do, tormenting people. I know the ADA law well and they violated it and my rights, so go suck a big one ad learn before you run your mouths. You asked, I told the story; now you want to harass me. Your blab would be totally different if it happened to you.

Wolf-cub, when will you take some responsibility for your own inadequacies instead of blaming other people? It wouldn't happen to me because even my carry on items are packed to survive in the hold. I know how to plan ahead since circumstances change.

You can call those that disagree with you any names that you wish to, but your problems are largely created by your own attitude, lack of understanding, and lack of forethought.

You are frequently the instigator of posts with attitude, but then you try to play the victim card. Don't run whining back to Mommy if somebody hits you back!

You are not an alpha player in the wolf pack. Not an Alpha dog, nor an Alpha bitch. Best follow the lead of others if you wish to survive in the real world.
