A brief history, I in 1969 started out with a Pentax Spotmatic and I did ok with it. My only real issue with this system was how slow changing lenses. I was always satisfied with the results.
In 1973 I graduated from High school and got a job. I bought my first pro camera a Canon F-1. That system grew to 9 Bodies and 19 lenses. Two things happened in 1990. My house was burglarized and they took my gear. Canon had changed from the FD mount to the EF mount. (which I took as a personal affront)
When I went to buy a Nikon F3 the dealer talked me into a Leica R instead. I was already using Leica M and it seemed logical to me. Loved them. Then Leica changed there whole system when they went digital and af they also went Medium format.
So I tried a mirrorless camera the Olympus and discovered I really need an SLR. So a little over two years ago I got into Nikon with a pair of D800e and a few lens. I am happy that I got this camera and the results (for me at least) leave nothing to be desired. Plus I get excited about playing around with all the old lenses.

The 0nly slr body I had Problems with were a Minolta built Leica R7. And I left out all the medium and large format stuff.

To OP:
You seem to spew out about Nikon this and that but nothing yet to back up your facts as Im still waiting to hear the complaints.
IMO, both Canon and Nikon have their issues.
Ive shot Nikon for 8 plus years now, but shot Canon for many more years from the Eos 3 & Eos 1V to the MKIII.
The main reason for the switch was the sorry excuse for a camera in the MKIII with it sub mirror reflex issues. BTW, the MKIV didn't fare to well either since the 7D appeared to be the weapon of choice for many pros until the 1Dx came out.
So, either bring forth some examples so we can properly comment about, or just put on your big boy panties yourself and save us the drama.

I was thinking about finding an older Nikon and buying it to learn both sides Of the camera issue. It just a question. I kid about Nikon cameras but Nikon does make a good camera and I want to have some knowledge. I need to be learning things I can't just sit and watch TV all day when I can be learning about cameras. I do a lot of reading about all cameras, all cameras. It keeps my mind, what little I have going all the time. I don't want arguments just true facts. Thanks all...

Bushy, I don't know what exactly you're basing that on. You do t say exactly where you read that.
According to the camera repairman that is here on the Hog, Riggens, he would agree with you.
Some base a fact on what they read here on the Hog, but old people tend to be Nikon shooters, while in the overall population there are more Canon shooters so statistically there should be more Canon repairs.
I've not owned that many cameras but have never had a problem with any camera. Maybe you or someone else can point us to non-emperical data. ;-)

I cannot recall ever seeing a medium format Leica camera. Can you give more details please. My 111c is still in working order, as are the 5 lenses.

 I guess I must be one of those old people here on the Hog that shoot Nikon cameras! And am proud of it!  They are all good cameras, we shoot what we are comfortable with, I think... ;)

It is true that I have repair issues with Nikon products, but the same is true of Canon products. Almost all my issues have been related to newer (digital, of course) cameras. I don't have any problems with my Nikon FM2n or Yashica TLR, and the relatives using my Nikon EM and two old Minoltas seem quite happy. I do have a small pinhole in the bellows of my Kodak Autographic, but a spot of black fingernail polish should return it to its original 1916 condition.

Oh, but you were worried about modern Nikon and Canon digital cameras. Well, all I can say is my Nikon P1 and Canon SX1IS cameras seem to be holding up quite well. Hmmm...... Could it be that newer and/or high tech cameras do not receive the quality control that older cameras got? Or are we just drowning ourselves in under-developed technology?

I don't know whether it makes a good analogy, but it seems that every time I buy the initial version of any software program, I have problems; by version 1.2 or 1.3, most of the bugs some to be worked out.

"Problems" are often questions about how to use the camera, rather than actual problems, although people do have problems with their cameras at times. I've been using Nikon SLRs since the 1970's, and I've never had a problem that needed a repair. At the current time, we have seven Nikon DSLRs, two small Sonys, and a small Canon P&S. My oldest Nikon is a D70, which dates back to 2004, although I bought it a few years ago.

I got my first Nikon(nikkormat FTN) in 1970. From there I got the F2S, FA, Fm2n, F3,F4, N70 then went digital with the D70s in 2006, then a D300, and a D7000. I have never had a nikon break or fail to function, so I can't relate to your reference to problems with nikon. I currently have and use a dozen nikkor lenses, again with never a problem with any of them.

True fact?

Either/Or

Tomato/To-mah-to

Whatever/whatever.

It's all taste and subjective wants.

Either do the job just fine.

Of course you don't see Canon cameras in for repair. Why bother, they're disposables. When they fail you just buy another one.

My only failure, so far,was an HP digital. The lens would retract on power down. Great image quality, easy to use. Six months after I got it the lens locked up halfway into it's retraction while shutting down. Instant brick.
