I don't agree on your point here whatsoever. The 5DIII is a versatile camera whereas the 5Ds/r is a niche camera for very specialized needs.

The only way you might see a flood in the market is when the soon to make an arrival 5D Mark IV release is put into the spotlight and even then people will be careful.

Both cameras bring different tech to the table. The 5lll still has lower noise and more DR.
The new 5 gives up DR in favor of HDR. I don't know if the new 5 has any special HDR tech as a result.
For sure were going to start seeing the Canon lenses, especially all the new mkll model lenses, start to test much higher as a result of all the mp's. That should get very interesting!
To me DR is little more than a buzz word. I'm sure my 5ll has some of the worst DR in the world and I've never had it be a factor in any of my shots.
But if the 5lll's DO drop dramatically in price, I would be tempted to get one, or wait till the new 5 goes on loyalty! ;-)

I think you do not have to wait long for a price drop on the 5dm3. Just look at ebay now. There are as many 5d2 and 5d3 listed from the last 10 days (since the specs started leaking) as all older listings combined. And almost noone is bidding so you know what will happen. The market will be flooded with those cameras and you can grab them for very low prices when they actually start delivering the new 5Ds line.

Just so you know, the new 5 has a MORE sophisticated A-focus system than the 1Dx and using 2 processors WAY better than in the 1Dx. If you think that won't shoot action, think again!
I shoot sports with my 7ll on the 4fps setting to not fill my buffer or my card.
With a 600mm f4, this thing is going to be a birding monster!! ;-)

Sharpie, I'll still take the 1DX over the new 5 for sports. the 12fps and terrific autofocus gives me shot sequences that I don't think I'd get with the new 5. All I'd have to do is miss one touchdown catch, one basketball dunk, one knock-out punch and I wouldn't go back. The new 5 is a birding , portrait, studio, landscape monster, but the 1DX still rules action sports.

Good morning SS, if you are shooting JPG on the 7II at 4fps there's no way you could fill the buffer and even at full speed I don't think you could either. If you had a big enough memory card your battery would run down first. But if your shooting max Raw now that's different. It's nice to see the prices coming down for the bodies anyway. I know that the 1 DX is a little long in the tooth but for sports I don't see anything out there as of today that comes close except the 7D MKII. With a max ISO at 6400 on the new 5 series I have to wonder what the noise factor will be shooting in low light, I know that it is designed for studio shooting. I could be wrong on all of this as it seems that I am more wrong then right, time will tell.

I think you're right on here. The new 5 seems to be more of a studio/ portrait/ landscape camera, bit I saw that the ISO can be jacked up to a max of 102,000. Nothing wrong with setting it at 6400 and using a flash, however! ;)
