Photo rumors and canon rumors are publishing rumors about the price for the new 5Ds 50.6 mpx camera. The price they are expecting in the US is $3.499 which is the same as when 5Dmiii was launched 3 years ago. This means that Canon is for the first time launching a full frame camera that is worth the money. That is good news for us camera consumers who now will get this new model for only 10% more than the current 5dmiii and that also means that those who still want 5dmiii should be able to get them for close to $1.000 soon.

Sorry, you will not get the MKIII for $1000. In fact, the retail price for a MKII is $2,300, and the best used price is $1,100. You might see left over MKIIs drop some, and the MKIII's drop to $2,300, but I doubt any lower for a long time if ever.

That said, I have an MKII and an MKIII, both will likely go for sale if the new ones come out. I'll give it six months though for Canon to work out the bugs, and to get feedback on the new ones.

Why? Did it stop taking beautiful pictures? Or is the GAS attack on a 5DS just too overwhelming?

That's what I saw for the 5DSr (no AA filter). $3,699 for the 5DS. Wait and see...

I guess it depends on your definition of "worth".

60 mb per picture in Raw/Large. Thats about the same as Nikon 810. At that rate, better get a new hard drive. But they are cheap anyway. So are SD cards, under $100 for a 256gb one now. I bought one of these monster SD cards, works just fine with my MKIII.

Nawh!!! It's not worth the money....NOT until they come out with 5 trillion megapixel, 278 focus points, 987 frames per second, bomb-proof construction, weight under a half pound, 5mm-8000mm f/1 zoom lens and MSRP of $25,000 or less will anyone be able to take a decent picture. All pictures taken previously will be rated "F" or less. For the life of me, I never could figure out how photogs like Annie Leibovitz, Bob Capa, Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Weegee, Ansel Adams and all the rest ever got a decent picture. All they had was film, and frequently just a single-shot that had to sit on a tripod...! Seriously, these new models are great but let's get real: for the overwhelmingly number of photographers, for 99% of the pictures taken no one will be able to tell if you took a picture with a Canon 5DS or a Canon XT. Cameras TAKE a picture, they don't make a picture. Don't sell your current equipment short and go borrow money for something new, just because it's the "latest and greatest"....a year from now it won't be and you'll still be paying for it.

The only thing that is not cheap for this camera is the glass. Most of good glass for this camera is and will be $3000 and up. Like the new 11-24 mm f4 lens. So the camera body is kind of cheap compared to the glass you need/want to have with it. That can fast add up to 10 times the camera body.

Are you saying that current EF glass designed for full-frame DSLRs won't do the job with this new 5DS? Surely not. Your existing lenses should perform quite well. I'm sure you are correct that some of the newer L lenses will be expensive, but they would have been anyway. It seems to me that the key here is the ability to produce a very high resolution image at a very reasonable price. I'm looking forward to reviews and a track record on the camera before I order, but I will probably order.

One thing I would like to know more about is what the "r" version brings to the table in terms of practical use, making it the more desirable option...if, in fact, it is.

Jeez Bud, your not a jaded old curmudgeon are you??
But if you have to know, Annie shoots with an 80mp Hassey, Avedon did the entire American West body of work in 8x10 and Adams also used the dinky 8x10 and larger.
50mp can't even come close to those. What did you think they used, a Kodak Brownie?!
