I almost choked on my McMuffin when I read this....

By this logic then Britney Spears is a much better singer than Pavarotti!

Wrong. If you do not like opera, then it does not matter how good Pavarotti was, you will not appreciate him. After all, did those two other guys standing up there with him not also have there sworn partisans?

Also, I offer you that for every person who knows Pavarotti, twenty do not but they know Spears. I can pick out Pavarotti's voice in an instant but if Spears walked up to me, I would not know she was. But, when it comes to computers, I will go with the market leader. Mac may be better in some regards but overall, I go with Windows and it has nothing to do with price.

Image quality and 'look' have only to do with the quality of the video subsystem. I've seen junky looking Macs, and gorgeous Windows systems.

It USED to be that Macs were better known for their graphics ability, simply because there were more graphics software oriented titles available for them than there were for PCs. It also used to be true that MACs were crappy for any kind of 'business' operations.

Now, they're both very much similar. There are very few mainstream software titles that are available only for one platform or another.

The sheer size of the PC market makes a difference if you're a software developer, but even that is not a big deal anymore, now that Macs are available with Intel processors. When they were a Motorola-only shop, it made a BIG difference to software programmers.

Flip a coin.

If Mac were so good, why does Windows outsell it twenty to one? If it were not for the force of the personality of the late Mr. Jobs, it would have an even smaller market share. Furthermore, Apple is moving away from desktop and laptop computers in its retail offerings.

Sure, Mac may be better in many significant ways, but, nonetheless, the market place has weighed in overwhelmingly for Windows.

As a practical matter, either is probably just as good for what most digital photographers do.
If Mac were so good, why does Windows outsell it t... (show quote)

..Isn't this kinda' like asking.."If a Rolls Royce is so good, why to VW's outsell them?!! Do we really have to answer that question?

....And using your logic, a Chevy must be better than a BMW. Other posts are correct, PC is more numerous based on price and the fact that Apple chose to have a closed system so they could control quality and compatibility with third party apps and hardware.

I have three macs in the household, desktop for my wife, one for me and a laptop. I often tell friends that I wouldn't have a computer if I couldn't have the mac and had to contend with PC crashes, lock-ups, viruses etc.

Heres my 2 cents, I have 3 Macs in my house and the 21 inch IMAC is the bomb for pp, I'm on my 4 year old Macbook now and my wife has a new macbook, I have 5 pcs gathering dust in the basement, the last laptop lasted 2 years. Macs last and don't lose speed, don't get viruses so you don't have to pay for that, and most of all a Mac is easy to use, its like it was made for people that are not computer genuises, Scott

I use a Mac and love it as it has never stopped working and never gotten a virus. I bought a factory refurb about 4 years ago on my son's advice as he works on computers for a living and he sees very few Macs in the shop and he personally will not use a pc anymore.
My wife runs our company on a pc but not much longer as she has had so much trouble with the pc locking up and not responding.
We will switch to a Mac as soon as possible.
The Mac is the computer of for people that do any kind of graphics work which would include photography. All the pros in town that I have talked to use Macs in their business and that is good enough for me.
I take my Mac with coffee, thanks

This is like the RR/VW comment above. Given the totality of the experience and the needs and expectations of the purchaser, the Chevy/VW is indeed better. Seems like most people view the Mac/PC debate as an exercise in optimization. That is, the consumer opts for one property over all others. However, in the real world, decisions are more complicated than that and we generally opt for suboptimization. Yes, that is correct, we compromise. I am not arguing for which is better, I am only describing behavior.

Well here is 1 PC user that says 'If I didn't have so many legacy programs running on my home built PC, I'd have a MAC for graphics in less than a minute'

Sarge
PS: My wife, daughter and son all have MACs

I have heard, as i'm sure we all have, the discussions (arguments) regarding which platform is best.. However, I haven't heard it in the context of photography and would love to hear some opinions.. Since I think we're probably at least 75% PC users I would especially like to hear from any Mac users.. Thanks..

Edh,
I used a PC up to Apr 2009, I then bought a IMAC 24. Main reason I bought the MAC was reliability, I have never had it lock up or get a virus. Lets hope the dirtbags never start looking at the MAC to get their kicks. Now since I have used both I find the MAC to be just a tad faster in photo processing, not a lot faster. If I was just starting out, I would go MAC, but that is me, most programs cost more.

A Mac and iced tea by far. When I had my PC and had problems there was no one to go to for answers. I finally bought a Mac and along with my purchase I got training on any issue and they actually give you a telephone number to contact a specialist. People by PCS because of the low cost and they think they won't be able to understand the Mac but it's very easy to use with less key strokes.

I use a PC. I would rather spend money on camera equipment not the computer. The PC I have had for the past 3 years is working just fine and with money I saved I was able to get a new body and and a telephoto lens.

A good point has been raised several times...virus/adware/etc. If you have children or are a heavy internet user Mac is the way to go. I am constantly having to reload windows on my boys' computers. Yes, I have anti-virus protection. The bad guys are always one step ahead.
