CNN)Sixty years ago, Ruby Bridges walked to school escorted by four federal marshals as a White mob hurled insults at her.

Bridges, just 6 years old on November 14, 1960, was set to begin first grade at William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans. As the first Black student to attend the school, Bridges carried integration on her small shoulders.
Her first day at William Frantz came four years after Black parents in New Orleans filed a lawsuit against the Orleans Parish School Board for not desegregating the school system in the wake of the Brown v. Board of Education decision, which determined in 1954 that state laws establishing segregation in public schools were unconstitutional.
The year Bridges walked into the school, Judge. J. Skelly Wright had ordered the desegregation of New Orleans public schools. The Orleans Parish School Board, however, had convinced the judge to require Black students to apply for t***sfer to all-White schools, thus limiting desegregation, according to the Equal Justice Initiative.

That year, only five of the 137 Black first graders who applied to t***sfer were accepted, and only four agreed to attend, according to EJI. Bridges was among them.
"For me, being 6 years old, I really wasn't aware of what was going on," Bridges, now 66, told NPR in 2010. "I mean the only thing that I was ever told by my parents that I was going to attend a new school and that I should behave."

Once Bridges entered the school and arrived at her classroom, all the other students had withdrawn. The rest of the school year, it was just her and the teacher, she said. And crowds continued to show up, at one point bringing a small baby's coffin with a Black doll inside.
"I used to have nightmares about the box," Bridges said. "Those are the days that I distinctly remember being really, really frightened."
But Bridges stayed at the school despite retaliation against her family. Grocery stores refused to sell to her mother, Lucille. And her father, Abon, lost his job, according to the National Park Service. The toll was so hard on their marriage that by the time Bridges graduated from sixth grade, they had separated, she told NPR.
Eventually, though, Bridges made it to second grade. And when she did, the school's incoming first grade class had eight Black students, the EJI said.

CNN reached out to Bridges for comment but did not receive a response.
Bridges continues to be an inspiration for many. In 2011, she was invited to the Oval Office, where the painting commemorating her walk by Norman Rockwell -- criticized when it first appeared on a magazine cover in 1964 -- was on display.
"I think it's fair to say that if it wasn't for you guys, I wouldn't be here today," then President Barack Obama told Bridges during her visit, according to the White House archives.
Lucille, who Ruby says pushed her to attend the school, died this week at age 86. In an Instagram post, Ruby called her mother a "champion for change," adding that her actions altered the course of many lives.

Russia Today- really??

QUESTIONABLE SOURCE

A questionable source exhibits one or more of the following: extreme bias, consistent promotion of propaganda/conspiracies, poor or no sourcing to credible information, a complete lack of t***sparency and/or is f**e news. F**e News is the deliberate attempt to publish h**xes and/or disinformation for the purpose of profit or influence (Learn More). Sources listed in the Questionable Category may be very untrustworthy and should be fact checked on a per article basis. Please note sources on this list are not considered f**e news unless specifically written in the reasoning section for that source. See all Questionable sources.

Overall, we rate RT Questionable based on promoting pro-Russian propaganda, promotion of conspiracy theories, numerous failed fact checks and a lack of author t***sparency.
Detailed Report

Reasoning: Russian Propaganda, Conspiracy, Lack of T***sparency, Some F**e News
Country: Russia
World Press Freedom Rank: Russia 148/180

History

Founded in 2005, RT, originally Russia Today, is a television network funded by the Russian government. It operates cable and satellite television channels directed to audiences outside of Russia as well as providing Internet content in various languages, including Russian. Critics of RT claim they are a source for disinformation and pro-Russian propaganda.

Read how the Russian Government influences Media.

Funded by / Ownership

RT News is owned by ANO “TV-Novosti”, which is funded by the Russian Government. The network is funded through advertising as well as 307 million USD from the Russian Government as of 2016.

Analysis / Bias

In review, RT News present news that is generally in line with the narrative of the Russian Government. When it comes to covering USA/International News they provide right of center coverage. They are highly biased in favor of Russia and occasionally run Pro-state conspiracy stories. The Columbia Journalism Review calls RT “The Kremlin’s propaganda outlet.”

In general, most international news stories on RT are factual and relate to true events, however there are occasional pieces that spin these facts into a different narrative, that is misleading. Another concerning aspect of RT is they do not list author information for articles published on the website. This presents a lack of t***sparency that makes it difficult to verify information.

A search of Google Fact Check Explorer reveals numerous failed fact checks. Below is a short list of many false claims:

While RT Bemoans Ukrainian Propaganda, it is Russians who Feel the Disinfo Fallout – FALSE
RT: OPCW Got its Chemical Weapons Samples from ‘Jihadists’ – FALSE
RT Distorts Disinformation Detective’s Guide to Russian Trolls – FALSE
RT’s FARA examined. Part I – FALSE
RT: US Special Envoy Says Russia Seeks to ‘Freeze’ Conflict in … – FALSE
Overall, we rate RT Questionable based on promoting pro-Russian propaganda, promotion of conspiracy theories, numerous failed fact checks and a lack of author t***sparency. (5/18/2016) Updated (D. Van Zandt 1/03/2019)

RIGHT BIAS

These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward conservative causes through story se******n and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage conservative causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy. See all Right Bias sources.

Overall, we rate Newsbusters Right Biased based on story se******n that always favors the right. We also rate them borderline questionable due to the use of poor sources and numerous failed fact checks. One additional failed fact check will push this source by default onto the Questionable list.
Detailed Report

Factual Reporting: MIXED
Country: USA
World Press Freedom Rank: USA 48/180

History

Founded in 2005, Newsbusters claims to expose liberal bias much like its parent organization Media Research Center. The website features a tagline that reads “dedicated to exposing & combating liberal media bias.” Essentially, this site reports on perceived liberal bias in the media and by individuals. According to their about page, they state “the NewsBusters blog provides immediate exposure of national media bias, unfairness, inaccuracy, and occasional idiocy.”

The parent organization, Media Research Center (MRC) was founded in 1987 by L. Brent Bozell III. MRC claims to be “America’s leading media watchdog in documenting, exposing and neutralizing liberal media bias.”

On 12/18/2019 Newsbusters published a misleading criticism of Media Bias Fact Check stating “MediaBiasFactCheck.com has one section labelled “Questionable Sources,” which includes neo-N**i publications such as The Daily Stormer, but also slams reputable conservative outlets: DNC Starts Disinformation ‘Intelligence Unit’ To Combat Drudge, CNSNews.com.” While it is a fact that there are numerous conservative/far right sources on our questionable list, Newsbusters failed to mention the dozens of left wing sources on this list such as Occupy Democrats, Bipartisan Report, Blue Dot Daily etc. This story illustrates clearly the bias and misleading nature of Newsbusters and hence why this is a borderline Questionable source.

Funded by / Ownership

Newsbusters is owned by the Media Research Center, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The MRC has received financial support from several right leaning sources, including the Bradley, Scaife, Olin, Castle Rock, Carthage and JM foundations, as well as ExxonMobil. Newsbusters is funded by MRC and also displays advertising.

Analysis / Bias

In review, Newsbusters reports news on liberal bias. They frequently use strongly loaded, emotional and right biased wording such as this: CBS’s Garrett Hammers NBC for Boosting Warren During Debate. This story is sourced to video footage and tweets. Another example of emotionally charged language can be found here: NBC’s Liberal Debate Obsessions: Save Miami! Grab Guns! Fight Mitch McConnell! When it comes to sourcing they usually provide video to support their opinions, however other times they use poor sources such as Rush Limbaugh and Breitbart. Editorially, Newsbusters always favors conservatives and denigrates the left.

A factual search reveals a poor track record with IFCN fact checkers.

Ted Kennedy sent a letter to then Soviet leader Yuri Andropov apologizing for Ronald Reagan and begging the Soviets not to overreact. – FALSE
Warren Buffett recently said “Scrap Obamacare and Start All Over.” – PANTS ON FIRE
Says after Hurricane Sandy, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg “refused to allow the National Guard into the city to restore civil order because Guardsmen carry guns!” – MOSTLY FALSE
The C*******t Party of the USA endorsed Hillary Clinton. – FALSE
Overall, we rate Newsbusters Right Biased based on story se******n that always favors the right. We also rate them borderline questionable due to the use of poor sources and numerous failed fact checks. One additional failed fact check will push this source by default onto the Questionable list. CONSPIRACY-P***********E

Sources in the Conspiracy-P***********e category may publish unverifiable information that is not always supported by evidence. These sources may be untrustworthy for credible/verifiable information, therefore fact checking and further investigation is recommended on a per article basis when obtaining information from these sources. See all Conspiracy-P***********e sources.

Overall, X22 Report is a strong Conspiracy website that promotes unproven claims.
Detailed Report

Factual Reporting: LOW
Country: USA
World Press Freedom Rank: USA 48/180

History

According to their about page “X22 Report is a daily show that will cover issues surrounding the economic collapse.” There is also a disclaimer that states “The X22 Report is “one man’s opinion”. Anything that is said on the show is for information purposes only.” A Whois search reveals the site was launched in 2008.

Funded by / Ownership

X22 is funded through a combination of online ads and many prominent donate buttons. They also accept cryptocurrencies. The site appears to be owned by a single person named Dave. He does not provide his last name.

Analysis / Bias

The focus of X22 is on the potential for an economic melt down where inflation drives the cost of goods to unaffordable levels. In fact, X22 provides a list of prepping materials needed for this collapse. These include: food, water, toilet supplies, weapons, ammunition, gold and silver etc. X22 also believes that c*****e c****e is a h**x. The wording of headlines and articles contain only mild loaded words, however they consistently use questionable sources such as conspiracy theorist Ben Swann and Greg H****r of USAWatchdog. X22 also has a page dedicated to Relocations of Unaccompanied Immigrant Minors, which provides a map of where they are most concentrated in the USA. There isn’t a description as to why this map is posted. Do they have sympathy for the immigrant minors? Or is it a warning? Based on the comments below the map it appears that the readers are opposed to immigrants, with some fearing spread of diseases.

Overall, X22 Report is a strong Conspiracy website that promotes unproven claims. (D. Van Zandt 4/14/2018) Updated (6/15/2018)
