I'm seeking a better battery charger that will display state of charge, do rapid charging or more gentle/thorough slow charging. Currently using Panasonic BQ-CCSS chargers for Eneloop AA and AAA Ni-MH batteries. Any recommendations on your experiences here ? I have a large stable of batteries, some are getting long in tooth and I want to get max useage. Also, any thoughts on minimum useful discharge percentage before "retirement" ?

Thanks for ideas.

I use an inexpensive voltage meter designed for batteries. A google search for "battery tester" will show you dozens of choices.

Daylight Savings this weekend.

I once bought a clock/radio that automatically adjusted for daylight savings time and standard time. I thought I'd finally eliminated the worry about remembering to adjust the time. Then the country changed the days we adjusted the clock. Can't win sometimes.

As I am now in my 70’s, my eyesight is weakening. I have been a photographer now for 50+ years and still love the craft.
My question is this; would anyone in hedgehog world have advice as to how to deal with this type handicap, ie: camera links to bigger viewfinders like ipads, etc.
Any suggestions are much welcomed.

I am 71. I have some problems with my eyesight. A number of years ago I had a cornea transplant for my left eye. THere was a problem and the transplant has wrinkle in it which causes me to see double with that eye, On smaller things it just acts to blur what I am seeing. I'm currently recovering from a cornea transplant in my right eye. My vision was 20/100 before and it has gotten to 20/40 now. It may get better over the next several months. I have difficulty with manual focus and even in some situations with auto focus. I bought a newer camera with better auto focusing (a Nikon Z5) and that has helped. I wish you good luck.

Sine I have two Sigma Nikon F mount lenses that work perfectly well with the FTZii, I'd suggest that the term "any non-Nikkor is a bit of an overreach.

Fair enough. I certainly haven't checked every lens. Try before buying.

For me manual focus is fine, so I may soon go with the Tokina lens.

I wouldn't advise using any non-Nikkor lens with the FTZ adaptor. When I bought my Z5 it came with a Z lens and I brought the full-frame Tamron 90mm that I used on my D5600. Mine didn't work at all. Some Tamron 90MM macro lenses do work. I didn't know that the build made a difference.

Any ideas?

Using my PC I clicked on the link you posted and got the same message you reported. Then I copied and pasted the URL into my browser and it opened up. I'm guessing the link includes extra characters that aren't part of the link. In this case it'sthe second quotation mark.

Any hints on how to achieve this would be welcome.

A little work in photoshop can give the look you want but it would be easier to just take a picture with the techniques and settings shared by others. If the blur isn't what you expect then adding to it with PS might save the day.

About every three or four years I go to Costco and get the best laptop I can for about $1000. The current one runs everything Adobe has very well. It has an Intel i7, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB solid state drive and an Nvidia GPU.

Good advice. At Christmas time I bought a $1,000 laptop at Costco. It was a variety of the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus. Mine came with a 12th generation i7 running at 2.30 gh, 40 gb of RAM and a 1 tb SSD. It runs fast with everything I have thrown at it. It was well worth the $1,000 cost.

In 1999 I spent the last two weeks of January in Magadan, Russia. High temperature was -40 degrees F. On my last day it went down to -65 degrees F. Several days with -50. I was never cold even walking a mile to the college I was teaching at. Here's what I wore.
Heavy wool socks and felt lined Sorel boots
Denim pants with a felt lining, long underwear
Thermal underwear, a long-sleeve wool shirt, a heavy wool sweater, and a good down jacket.
I wore ski gloves

The one time I took off one of my gloves was to videotape the city from a tall hill. In a minute all my fingers were really cold and I could not feel them. But a couple of hours later all were normal except my pinky what improved like the others but it was two months before I could feel the tip of it. The temp was 50 below. I wish I had a second pair of gloves like someone mentioned above.

I hope this helps. I didn't have any special clothes, this was what I wore when I lived in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Great post. I'm printing it so I can easily refer back to it.

In the panning picture of the jet I was confused by one thing that I'm guessing must be a typo.

The lens is described as EF 100-400mm...but the exposure indicates it was shot at 490mm.

Thanks. I always learn something from you.

Not sure if this is the right section - but the Admin will move it if not.

I am looking for a reasonably-priced scanner to scan old prints (3x5, 4x6) for storing digitally. Some prints have scratches, but with access to Photoshop, they can be removed. Resolution of the scanned images as well as dynamic range has to be good, but with Topaz Gigapixel AI, DeNoise or PhotoAI, a lot of improvements to a modestly good scan can be made.

I see $600 or higher scanners in B&H. Then there is this $110 scanner, claiming 4800 dpi resolution, scanner bit depth 48, etc. Professional scanning services offer 300 dpi Jpegs, so I am confused by the 4800 number!

Scanning services in local (NC) stores range from $3 to $5 per scan, so I would recoup my investment very quickly with the above purchase!

Epson - Perfection V39 Advanced Flatbed Color Photo Scanner

Would that be a good option if scanning prints (no film, no slides) is my only requirement, and I can make up with postprocessing SW any scanner deficiencies?

Thanks in advance for all inputs.
Not sure if this is the right section - but the Ad... (show quote)

I have been quite happy with my HP Officejet All-in-One printer, scanner, fax. I'm scanning to print later or view on my computer. 200 dpi -300 dpi suits me well. I can't see any meaningful difference at higher resolutions other than larger file sizes. Just my $.02.
