I'm seeking a better battery charger that will display state of charge, do rapid charging or more gentle/thorough slow charging. Currently using Panasonic BQ-CCSS chargers for Eneloop AA and AAA Ni-MH batteries. Any recommendations on your experiences here ? I have a large stable of batteries, some are getting long in tooth and I want to get max useage. Also, any thoughts on minimum useful discharge percentage before "retirement" ?

Thanks for ideas.

I use an inexpensive voltage meter designed for batteries. A google search for "battery tester" will show you dozens of choices.

Thx - looking for chargers that Hoggers have found reliable with the extra features. Lots of unknown brands with hype …

I like the Energizer Model CHFC2 charger for AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V batteries. Bought mine on Amazon last year. Shows charging progress in bars.

La Crosse is my favorite, most used.

I also have an OPUS BT-C3400, which will also charge LI-ion.

Eneloop don't require too much care, but other NiMh need to be "tested" on the La Crosse about once or twice a year to keep them in good working condition. Otherwise, their capacity will drop to the point that they can't be revived.

Not cheap but very reliable and charges AAA, AA, C and D. Have had mine for more than 10 years and still going strong. Powerex MH-C808M Ultimate Professional Charger for 8 AA / AAA / C / D NiMH or NiCD Batteries

SKU: MH-C808M When I bought it was the MAHA brand. https://mahaenergy.com/chargers/

I got a MAHA battery charger probably 10-12 years ago. It charges Eneloops nicely and gives an indication of how much they are charged. Many cheap chargers will charge batteries in series pairs so you need a number of batteries that is evenly divisible by 2. They will stop charging when one of the batteries is fully charged, leaving the other without a full charge. The MAHA charger charges each battery individually. It handles up to 8 simultaneously. Does AA and AAA.

I bought this last month. It doesn't have a display, but it charges Li-I batteries.

I have a PowerEx battery charger and have used it for several years. It's quite elaborate and allows you to charge/fix four AA or AAA, NiMH or NiCD. It does not do lithium. It is fully configurable and can be used to bring batteries up to full charge level. Some chargers only charge to the minimum capacity of all the batteries being charged, with a slow degradation of the batteries. This repairs that. It's fully programmable. The downside is that it is awfully expensive, about $100 Canadian. Not mine, but similar:

I have used a La Crosse BC-1000 for many years with my Eneloop batteries. It may be superceded now but it is everything you will want.

Thanks all - just the quality of responses I expected from Hoggers. I ordered a Powerex 940 and will condition, analyze and maintain/sort out my multiple AA/AAA’s confidently.

I have used Maha 8 position chargers which good results. They charge each battery individually and simply charge level individually. These were NiMH. Li ion batteries may be different
