I use both. Have a 2013 27 inch iMac that I use only as second monitor, a 2018 27 inch iMac for most of my photo editing, the big screens make photo editing much easier. 15 inch MacBook Pro circa 2016 still works fine when I am on the road, speedy enough for my needs. The Apple products sync with each other without any fuss, have had only one Mac in 30 years that needed a repair (PowerPC needed internal clock replaced). Have kept most for 7 years or so, or until software and hardware were obsolete, unable to update.

I have been very happy with Samsung 2 TB SSD T7, works fine through an old USB hub with my iMac, or directly to USB-C port on the computer. I picked up 2 of them at Costco about 6 months ago on sale for $189 each at the time. Looks like prices now are about $229, Costco doesn't show on their web site. I use for photo back up, Lightroom catalog back up when I am on the road with my laptop. Size of a credit card, 1/3 inch thick (3.3 x 2.2 x 0.3 inches)

I made a 10 day trip in early March to Yosemite and Sequoia, then Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. Home is San Diego. Definitely had snow in all but Monument Valley. There has been some light snow in the past couple weeks at Grand Canyon, you can use weather app and add Grand Canyon Village, Bryce, Zion to list of places to monitor. Your gear sounds good. Should work beautifully for you. We stayed at the Grand Canyon Plaza Hotel just on the edge of the park, staff friendly, and a number of nearby restaurants. Very worthwhile to have a National Park Pass as you can bypass the long entry lines to the parks. There is lodging in the park, the very historic El Tovar is right on the rim, but expensive, need to book way ahead. The National Park Service web site has a listing of all their lodging. Monument Valley is worth an overnight stop. The View hotel looks very nice though haven’t stayed there. It is relatively new. We used “Dineh Bekeyah” tours, took the 1.5 hour tour in a very nice 4 wheel drive vehicle over some very rustic roads. Haven’t been to Bryce or Zion for many years, but as I recall we spent a day at each location when our kids were ages 2-10, and we all had a great time. Plan a few sunrise / sunset times for photos along south rim of Grand Canyon, amazing colors develop then. Bring a tripod if you can as I most often used my 70-210 f/2.8 with Z7ll camera for the long shots.

I don’t think any new app needed. I have same phone and photos show up on my iMac soon after taking pic with phone. Suggestions from others about choosing to keep original should be sufficient. I generally open photos on my iMac with Lightroom if significant editing needed. I can export from Photos on iMac in HEIC or other formats as needed.

Have had my Z7 and now Z7ll. Had a variety of lenses going back to the 1970’s and all worked, old Nikon, Tamron, and Sigma. Had to manually focus and set f stop with most. As Z mount lenses have been released I’ve acquired a few new ones to simply avoid constantly changing FTZ adapter when I needed a different lens. My recent Nikon lenses have had good resale value.

Thanks. I have some extra time over the summer to work on merging the files. My other task this summer is to scan all my old Kodachrome slides from my travels in the 70's and 80's! Not sure I trust Legacy Box or similar service to do that for me.

Have processed many photos on my laptop when traveling, and when home using my desktop. Both are Apple computers with latest software of the operating system and Lightroom Classic. I am able to export photos from laptop as JPEGS and import the photos to desktop computer from an external drive, but is there a way to import or merge catalogs, collections, etc.? I have not had good luck importing original Raw photos with XMP files to show the edited images.f

I purchased an Epson ET-3760 in December 2020. So far, so good. Mostly printing on plain paper, scanner is excellent, printing not bad. Have done a few photo prints, and had to realign the print head to avoid banding on higher quality print. Costco had on sale at the time, about $300. Tanks easy to fill and ink seems to last a long time. The document scanner sheet feeder is not great, the scans sometimes have a bit of blurring from motion during the document feed. The flat bed scanner is great. I use with iMac, iPad, iPhone, over wi-fi in the home. Scans well without any physical connection to any device. Android and PC using guests in our home have had no problem either.

Thanks everyone! One of my local friends uses Photobucket. I've reviewed a number of sites, and that one looks like it has been resurrected from near oblivion, and is still a good choice. So far my use is simply to share with family and FB friends, nothing commercial. For the purposes of the class, we are to comment on photo editing, copyright protection. I do all my own editing, and since there are so many services for distribution, was hoping for some recommendations to check out.

Taking a photo class at UCSD Extension. Assignment this week is to pick a favorite photo distribution site, comment on ease of use, copyright protection, editing tools if available, etc. Any recommendations I can research? Right now I just use iPhotos or Google Photos to send photos to family, Facebook for general posting, etc. This could be for on line posting, ordering prints, etc. I am learning Lightroom, etc. with this class, but haven’t learned of any new photo distribution, posting methods.

That will work for me, having them on line and home delivery. They have always done a tremendous job on my best photos. I only print a few each year, usually the best of a vacation or family gathering, for framing and giving to family. Any other on line photo printing services folks like?
