I love the way this contest is administered: 1) very short time frame, so feedback comes quickly, 2) only one entry per person, and 3) the most fair way of voting I've seen in any other online photo contests.
Keep up the good work!
I've had a Zenfolio premium account for 2-3 years and like them very much, but I don't bother with their digital download. If you can get $50 for a digital download by e-mail, why bother with Zenfolio?
The large building on the right distracts my attention from the city skyline, but I love the effect.
I'd give on the idea of trying to emphasize the "kite wires"; it still looks like he's fishing to me. The point-of-interest in this photo is the man ("Man and the Sea" sort of thing), and you've done a good job of positioning him in the photo.
The tinted ones have a warmer feel to them, but they almost look like muddy water.
I like the original the best.
By all means ...pack it in your suitcase, while some TSA's let a tripod go thru, others do not let it go as carry on luggage.Pack it with your clothes ,the clothes will prevent any damage and you will have a smooth transition thru security[/quote]
I remove the head and put it in my camera bag, which I carry on (no way would I check my cameras), and pack the legs of the tripod in my suitcase.
Dramatic photo, but I'm having trouble with the scale, or perspective. I need something to give an idea of the relative size, and also which way is up.
As far as the "grunge look", I think you nailed it on the second photo. The first one isn't bad either, but the composition in #2 is very good. I'd remove the modern light poles on the right side of #2, then hang it on the wall.
The lights in the middle of the bridge are interesting, and the deck looks unusual as well; there might be a few photos about those elements.
The second shot is much better.
For future reference, a shot from the other side, where you catch the fireworks AND their faces lit up by the fireworks is a much more powerful shot.
If it shows a family "unit" enjoying the fireworks together, I think it would fit the category better.
I love the composition of the stately oak. The sturdy oak tree, with its strong arm reaching out to protect the deceased is very poignant.

I like the background effect; what filters did you use?
