Friday morning I went on a quest for some new subjects while trying to stay closer to home, the road I live on is a State hwy. That I call the road to no where , it runs about three miles then turns into a county road(paved for about two thirds its length the gravel section has the steepest hills and is a bitch to get moving on once you stop, it ultimately runs back into its self.
The good news is I was successful.

Looks like you had a fantastic ferry ride Rob.

Don

We sure did Don. I was a little bummed we had the marine layer(high clouds) push in late afternoon. I was poised for sunset shots off the stern through those channels(sailing east back to the mainland) but got whales instead!
Certainly a great trade up thanks to the Orcas cooperation!

Very nice! I've taken the Washington State Ferries between Seattle (Anacortes) and Vancouver Island several times and always have my camera handy. Never got photos of the orcas before, so I'll have to try again!

Thanks!

Bill

Thank you, Bill!
I too have taken that run but sadly, it no longer exists. Anacortes to San Juan Island is the farthest you can take a WSF boat. They do run high speed catamaran boats out of Seattle to Victoria(The Clipper) and the Black Ball still sails between Port Angeles and Victoria. If you do visit again I highly recommend whale watching excursions that run out of Bellingham and Anacortes. The best ones I've done are out of Victoria BC, though.

Very nice, Rob! Orcas/ Killer Whales are fascinating animals. Very intelligent, but unpredictable. Several keepers in various venues have been killed by captive Killer Whales. If you ride the Puget Sound ferries often enough, you might run into my son. He's an engineer with the ferry system.

Thanks Keith!! I have always been fascinated with them. I was 10 years old in a 14' Seaswirl tri hull salmon fishing when I first laid eyes on one of these amazing mammals. They were less than 40 feet off the side of the boat and just being curious. We cut the trolling motor and enjoyed the show. Admittedly, I was kind of scared at first as the closest one was clearly bigger than our boat and Point no Point is no place to end up capsized.....
The reality is if we don't pen them up, they don't mess with humans.
"In fact, there are no documented cases of an orca intentionally harming a human in the wild. Hanne Strager, a Danish biologist and whale researcher, said people off the coast of Norway have been swimming in close proximity to killer whales for decades. "The killer whales do not seem to be at all interested in people.Jun 28, 2023"
