I am interested in the Nikon MB D12 grip. Is this an older version, as I spot the D17 as the current grip?

How do we contact each other outside? Thanks!

I have a GPS which I have used for many years on my D7100, and it works well and even gives heading information (useful in flight) but now I am using a D500. If I had the correct cable for the D500 it might work, but I think that company is gone.

I could just use my D7100 when I want to tag my photos, I know.

Does anyone have a no-longer useful to you Nikon GP-1a GPS for the D500, and maybe the cable for the D500 (not sure of the part number)?

I know there are other solutions with a separate GPS, but I like the old solution.

Could be, but I am reading this from the EXIF data.

I just purchased a Nikon D500 from Nikon as a refurbished. I have made other purchases from the refurb bin and have been very happy.

I am happy this time as well, though I did not get a manual; yes I can download the PDF. The camera looks perfect in every regard.

I have only taken a few sample photos and when I checked, there were shutter clicks 001, 002, 003. etc.

I wouldn't be particularly upset if Nikon reset the shutter counter; the camera is new to me. Decades ago, before this was made illegal, some used car dealers did this with odometers with that as the argument.

But I think it is possible that there really weren't any shutter clicks. Earlier discussions of the origins of the refurbished stock suggests that this might be the case.

Does anyone have any insight one way or the other on this? Just curious.

I am upgrading from a D7100, which I have really liked, and I must say that the D500 is feature rich! I noted an option for it to remind me of my wife's birthday, for example.

I had the same hack/failure on my WD MyBook Live. As far as I could tell, there was no way for me to recover any of the files on my NAS (or to write new ones). I followed the WD suggestions and sent the drive to the data recovery service, and, yes, they kept it (but it was not likely ever going to work again so I didn't care) and they sent me back an external drive (not an NAS) with the recovered files. I used the WD discount offer to purchase a new NAS. My old MyBook Live was 10+ years old so I think I got my money's worth.

The problem with the recovered files was that the file names and folder structure were not maintained. For example I had ~22,000 music files and they were recovered as FILE00001 to FILE022355 with some appropriate extension. As these originally had names (with a lot of meta data) and were in folders organized by artist and CD, the recovered files were not all that useful. I am sure that the photo files were stored in some similar and not very useful fashion. As soon as I saw this, it was obvious that the recovered files were not all useful to me.

Fairly recently I had backed up the contents of my NAS on another external hard drive which I keep in my fireproof box, so I really wasn't dependent on the recovered files from the WD file recovery service.

So I copied all my files from that backup to the NAS and I am back in business.

If you had to use the recovered files from WD, you probably could, but I am sure that this would be a fair amount of work. Of course, if this were your only copy of a priceless photo, you could probably recover it with some work, perhaps a lot of work.

I admit that it was not very satisfying working with WD, but they did everything they promised and I did get a new (and larger NAS) at a reduced price. Resetting, reinstalling, recopying was a PITA, but I don't think I lost anything.

I could be wrong, but from my perspective, my old MyBook Live was as good as dead and I hoped that the WD offer of data recovery and reduced price replacement would get me back up and running. This was pretty much my only hope but I had my own backup of the NAS data if the data recovery service didn't work out.

If you are using your UAS in a commercial capacity you will almost certainly require an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot's License. The FAA definition of "commercial" has always been very broad, so you may want to consult their web site for more information. There are rules (more like guidance) for recreational and hobbyist flights as well. You have almost certainly seen photos and video taken which are outside these rules (and some may have been obtained with proper exemptions).

Local rules and regulations are more complicated as, for the most part the land owner does not own the aerial rights over his/her property. I cannot tell you that you cannot fly a UAS over my house any more than I can tell United Air Lines that they cannot fly over my house. However, it might be a trespass if you stand on my lawn, or there might be "peeping Tom" laws which apply.

Super! The download is fantastic. The nearly monochromatic nature contributes to the feel.

Allowing for the possibility that there may be some distortion of the image on the horizon, I am not sure that the movement is any faster.

I have the Sigma 18-200 on my 7100 and I find it a good "walking around" lens for a casual old guy. I use it for aerial photography as well and this is a reasonable range in a very lightweight package. I also have the Nikon 18-300. I probably don't use the low end of either all that often (but it is nice to have). I really like the Nikon 18-300 but it is pretty heavy for a long day's use.

Can you respond to me off-line? We may have other issues we can discuss.

My GPS is an EasyTag, and I have used it on-camera (with cable) when walking around on the ground and off-camera in the a/c, with the BlueTooth adapter on my camera. An on-camera might work in your aircraft. My Nikon PNS with internal GPS which I carry as a backup, does not work well under a high wing. I have the 3-axis EasyTag as I wanted heading in addition to lat long. Not all users will need the heading information and a 2-axis would be sufficient (and easier to calibrate).
