At this point in time, I would go full frame mirrorless. Nikon is offering a very nice discounted kit at the moment. I just recently made the transition from the Nikon D200. I had that body and two nice lenses since 2006. I certainly got my money's worth. What I see happening with the DSLR format is that the Compact Flash and batteries are already very hard to get and will become impossible. Best to get to the newest technology while you are making the transition!

We went the same time of year, our trip started in Bucharest on Oct 12th, 2014. We traveled with Grand Circle. Took the pre-trip to Transylvania. The air is so clean and pure, your pics will be wonderful. Ancient tall pine forests, Dram and Pelet Castles and their beautiful grounds. If you can visit Brasov on Sunday, they have a wonderful food truck feast in the town center. Beautiful architecture all over Romania. Boarded our river ship in Constanta, ancient ruins and fabulous museums & Orthodox churches with amazing frescoes! The trees on the Danube banks we’re changing colors. The great locks system, carvings in the rock cliffs and many interesting cities along the way. You will learn the Communist history of each country along the River. Wonderful fortress ruins in several countries. Charming villages and more churches and frescoes. And then, the crown jewel of St Stephen in Budapest!!! The night lighting looks like Buda is a movie set. Heroes Park is with a day. Visit the architectural park built for the Millennium showing the history of architectural buildings through the 1000 year history of Hungary. Also the thermal baths are splendid, particularly as the sun goes down. It snowed while we were in the outdoor pools!!! If you can attend a music concert in St Stephen’s Cathedral on the Pest side in the evening, it is perfect for photography as the church is fully light and is a gem. Climbing the church tower during the day provides wonderful 360 degree views of this beautiful area. Also the Great Food Halls is a fantastic photo op for both food and crafts and a great place to buy sausage, cheese, bread, nuts, etc for a picnic meal! We went 3 days early to Bucharest, spent 3 or 4 days in Transylvania, 12 days on the Danube River Cruise, stayed on our own in Budapest for 4 more days after the river cruise was over and then took a train to Prague for a week also on our own. We had never been to Eastern Europe before and really loved this trip. Days are getting short at this time of year so be prepared for low light photography. Many churches and museums do not allow the use of a flash. I travel with two lenses but use my 70-200 most of the time. I find it to be a perfect travel lens! Hope all that info helps!!!

I currently shoot a Nikon D200 which I bought new from Helix in 2006. Love my camera, but no video! I would consider changing brands if there is advantage. Particularly concerned about low light and long lens. HNC 6.12.2019
