Where we you 60 years ago today, November 22, 1963?

I was 16-years old and a Junior in high school. I was in physics class when they announced that President Kennedy had been shot. Keep in mind that we were in Northern Michigan and it was in the middle of deer season, so the first comments that we made between ourselves was that we didn't know Kennedy was a hunter, since for us, the only time we ever heard of someone getting shot was because of a hunting accident (there's no question that we were living sheltered lives). It was maybe 30-minutes later, when I was in study hall, that it was announced that Kennedy was dead and that it had taken place in Dallas.

About 15-minutes after that, they announced that classes had been cancelled and that the buses would soon be taking us home. We were also informed that since it was Friday, and that Thanksgiving was the following Thursday, that school would be closed for the entire week, instead of the just the originally planned two-days, Thursday and Friday.

I was working in a local grocery store/meat market at the time and being in an area where a lot of hunters came for deer season, we were pretty busy, so my boss asked me to come in and work most of the days that I had off (I was already scheduled to work the weekends and after school so in the end, it was only a few extra hours). We had a TV at the store and we watched most of the news programs covering the activities of the week. Of course, everyone who came into the store had to stop, look at what was going on and express their opinions and views, to say nothing about speculating what actually happened and who was ultimately responsible. While the term 'conspiracy theory' was not yet part of our lexicon, you could see how stuff like that got started and what perpetuated it.

I was off stage at Rowan University, (then Glassboro State College) preparing to play with our HS orchestra. Someone came backstage to tell us. Some cried, but we had to put on the concert. I was a freshman. I saw Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald, live on tv, too.

The first pictures were of my cousin's lilac bush! Across the street a bird was singing. On the way home I found some cool cabins. The focusing is VERY fast, and usually very accurate.

The birds are a House Sparrow, and the larger one is a Black-billed Magpie.

Friday was pretty slow, but Sunday made up for it!
Seems like it's pretty much back to normal, everyone either eating or being eaten.
But the water is still very high and it's obvious that there was some very high winds with a couple notable trees down. I'm sure that in another week or two it will be all just a memory!
I hope you like!

You're making me homesick. I can't wait to get back onto LAWD.

How did you get high enough to look down into the nest? Were you on a viewing platform?

I remember taking pictures like this in South Jersey. I don't miss shoveling out the driveway at all.

Welcome, too. I spent my first 62 years in Glassboro and Collingswood. I've only had a good camera (Nikon 7500) for a year and a half. My passion is bird photography, or any other wild critter that gets in front of my lens.

Beautiful colors. He looks like he crashed into a kindergarten finger painting session.

You're almost guaranteed to see the rare Florida Scrub Jays at the Lyonia Preserve. Google Maps says it's 38 minutes north of downtown Orlando up I-4. They are very curious about humans. I've seen pictures of them on peoples' heads and shoulders. Another free place is Mead Botanical Gardens in Winter Park. Lots of birds, over 30 species of wood warblers seen alone, plus birds that like their pond.

I suppose we tend to gravitate to the music of our teens, then branch out later to a few other styles as we experience other cultures. As a former music teacher, I would choose Classical if I had but one style to listen to for the rest of my life, because it's well constructed and there is such a large repertoire, but my playlist also includes the groups of the middle 60's up to the awful disco years. I wouldn't give you a nickel for pop music of the last twenty years.

I'd say a Euopean Starling, but most likely a juvenile, considering the light coloring. It has the spots of an adult, but not the black or iridescent feathers.

Nice pics of the hummers. I tried photographing a Ruby-throated, and only one pic was worth keeping. The last picture is of two Yellow-billed Cuckoos. I hope they migrate to central Florida. I've never seen one.

He looks like the guy I photographed on Black Point Wildlife Drive. Then again, they look alike.

Nice capture. Those Great Egrets are so graceful. The bokeh brings out the subject. Nice.

Nice shots. My favorite subjects are birds too. The egret appears to be a Snowy Egret with the yellow lores. The two ducks are American Coot and two female Pintails. Unless seen side by side, I can't tell a Greater from a Lesser Yellowlegs. Keep shooting. There are 2059 bird species in North America. It's like a scavenger hunt.
