Get the 27" screen. iMac is so much easier to use with photos. I've posted more than 8000 photos on findagrave and have been using Mac for years. It's the best.

I have been using a Toshiba laptop, but trying to edit photos on it drives me a little nuts: small screen (and my eyes are getting older!), limited graphics capabilities, etc. I have no experience with Apple products, but Costco has this on sale, and the 5K screen is pretty amazing:

New Apple iMac 27" - Intel Core i5 3.0 GHz - 8GB Memory - 1TB Fusion Drive - 4GB Radeon Pro 570X Graphics At $1729, not cheap, so it better be worth it.

I primarily use Lightroom and have just started to learn Photoshop, both of which are beginning to run a little slow. Luminar 4 shows significant lag.

Has anyone had experience with this computer and how do you regard it's suitability for photo editing and DAM? Any other thoughts about it, good or bad? It seemed like the RAM and graphics card were a little limited for something this expensive, but as I said, I don't know Apple.

Thanks in advance.

Well - that which never happens TO ME (lol) did happen. This is not a discussion about what I did incorrectly, just an FYI for D850 Owners.

I was trail walking in Grand Teton NP and was mentally composing my next shot when a solid root “jumped up” and tripped me at full stride, D850 in my right hand.

I went down hard, breaking 2 ribs, and the D850 landed about 20 feet ahead of me.

Just to let you know, the camera and 28-70 nikkor survived without a scratch thanks to the hard lens hood on which it landed face down. The camera continues to function flawlessly with flawless focus. This is one SOLID dslr.

I sent it in to Nikon for NPS service, inspection, and cleaning to be sure and NO damage was found.

If you have purchased a D850, then you should feel good about its durability.

My D850 and 28-70 lens came in the mail and was thoroughly chewed by my dogs before I could get to it. It did not function properly plus numerous teeth marks on it. However, I also sent it in to Nikon for service. It came back completely restored and has worked perfectly ever since. Repair was not covered by insurance, but my fault for not picking it up sooner.
I give full credit to Nikon for fine camera and restoration.

I've not used PC for photos, but Mac simply makes it quick and easy. Also if you are working in ancestry.com or findagrave.com, the ease of transfer of photos makes it worth the extra money.

Same as with telescope on a rifle or a microscope, leave both eyes open. It's not difficult to train your vision to look through one eye or the other. Both eyes open leaves you free to encounter anything else that is happening.

Better resolution has been around since the 60's. Think about the cameras used in the U2 spy plane. Today's satellites read can license plates from 100 miles up. It's only the digital revolution that seems to have caught up with us.

I like the higher resolution. One can always dial back.

If it will fit your camera, the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens is about as good as you'll find. Not cheap.
I used it for plants, but mostly for making copies of old fragile documents that i could blow up later.

I bought D850 a year ago. Really like it. However the shutter quit working and had to send it back to repair. $350. Warranty did not cover whatever it was that caused the problem.
